I think it's a strong staff with plenty of ties to Texas. I'm pretty stoked about this staff but I'm a homer so........

Baylor will beat up on the Horns yet again. *Sigh* JK! I think Strong was a good choice. He'll whip that defense into shape. I sure hope Charlie takes the throwback #'s off the helmets. Fugly is all I can say. Stick with the Longhorn on the white helmet.

That was for only one year anyway to honor the 63 championship team.

The UT staff will not be getting much sleep over the next 2-3 weeks -- NSD is fast approaching, and they haven't even met the commits, let alone the undecided or flip targets. Will be interesting to evaluate their recruiting influence in this short period.

So Wickline will be calling plays? Has he ever done that before? As he is an O-line/RB coach, it seems UT will try to become a power running team and de-emphasize the passing game (?).

Watson was not most fans' first choice to come to Texas, according to a few of the Longhorn boards. Koenning is a "meh" playcaller IMO. Hopefully for Texas Wickline knows how to call a game, otherwise they're going to have a pretty boring offense that won't draw alot of interest from top offensive recruits, compared to the more high flying offense of Tech, Baylor, & A&M.

I suspect that you will see Texas run a more conventional offense under Strong. Their offensive scheme will be designed to help their defense, which will be the focal point of this team IMO. Probably a lot less Pistol and a lot more under center with power running and play action. I think that Texas will be looking to be a 30 to 35 point offense. With the talent they should be able to recruit, that should be possible. If they can play strong defense, which is the staple of Charlie Strong Teams, then that should really be enough.

I guess we'll see.

You need to be aware that Texas may contact you in order to send you a cease and desist letter because you used the term Stronghorns.

Seems they have applied for a trade mark of that term and a a few other related terms and have already sent out cease and desists letters to some groups selling merch with that word on it.

:)

Good staff.

Wickline handled some playcalling at OSU but wasn't officially credited.
Bruce Chambers is a heck of a recruiter who coached at Dallas Carter HS. (home of plenty of high ranking recruits that went to UT over the years)

Lots of strong recruiters with Texas and Florida ties.
Would bet money they get the top class next year.

Just going by your site name, you have no chance of being unbiased and every likelihood of being uninformed on UT topics.

Nothing personal, though.

Gag 'em!

Not sure what in my post would be biased. I remember Koenning from both of his times at A&M - he was a "meh" playcaller then IMO. Hopefully he turns out to be a good WR coach for Texas, which is a step down in responsibility from his OC duties at Miss. State.

I said I hope Wickline is capable of being a decent offensive coordinator - it remains to be seen though since he's really never done it before.

And Watson isn't liked by most of the posters at both Longhorn boards I checked out, it's not my personal opinion because I don't know anything about him other than he's coming from Louisville with Strong.

What part of that post is biased?

Texas should be concerned that a more traditional running-based offense won't attract top-talent QBs, WRs, and TEs, at least the ones in Texas high schools that are geared towards spread & passing offenses. Which seem to be most of them right now.

Texas will get top talent at QB that will fit their system.

In his presser, Strong indicated that he wanted to run some spread with a heavy emphasis on power running. That doesn't seem as if it should be a deterrent for recruiting talent.

Well it certainly kills Alabama's recruiting.

Just jerking your chain, Aggie. Hey, even your fight song is all about UT hatred.
