I'd be suprised, maybe not even upset, but suprised if Cooper and Warmack were gone and we didn't take Vacarro or Fluker.

To me, I think we want

1.) Cooper- Best fit in a zone blocking scheme
2.) Warmack- we haven't paid him a ton of attention, but don't discount the Saban connection.
3.) Vacarro- Best safety and we need one, problem is little seperates him from the other safties that will be available at #47
4.) Richardson- I think we are comfortable going into the season with the DTs we have, but the value is likley too good to pass up
5.) Fluker- I think I would take him before Richardson. To me, he very much could end up being the best guard in the draft. I hope we sign a tackle in free agency (Clabo or Winston) so we don't try Fluker there.

If all five are gone.....I'll be sad.....

Btw, I'd take Richardson over Vacarro

Yeah.
And that mock had all five gone.
Can't say I've seen too many (or any ) of those

Well, I guess if all the OL who would warrant the pick are gone.......I might not have a problem with it.

Would probably rather go safety in the first if that was the case.

Given the choice of taking a player between those 3 positions, I'd probably go DT last.

5 OL in the first 17 picks would be a first, I hope this is way off base, can anyone comment on what happened to Bjoern Werner to make him drop? I must of missed some media comment about him as at one time he was the top pick of the draft in Feb and Jan.

I believe his high ranking was due in part to the belief he was going to test through the roof and show otherworldly athleticism. He didn't perform up to their standards and now is less highly regarded.

Edit: I like him. If he's there, I take him more than likely.

Am I the only one that doesn't like Pugh?

I'm a little biased but, generally I don't like these guys who have more than 1 position. To me, that means they don't play one of them well enough to stand out.

I don't get the draft analysts love for Pugh.

Yes, he has quick feet, but minimal power and very short arms. I don't see him being a better prospect than Kevin Kowalski who went undrafted.

It would be very rare, but not a first.

It happened fairly recently.

In 2008:
5 OL in top 17
7 in top 21
but NO Guards

2010 was very close:
5 OL in top 18
2 G/C in top 18

But I looked 20 years back and never saw it even come close again
Plus, I've never seen two Guards taken in the top 17. I'm pretty sure it has never happened.

BTW, his mock actually had 6 OL in the top 12. I bet < 2% chance of that happening.

Something people need to think about with the whole No Two OGs have been taken before the 18th spot situation.

There are not a lot of skill players that will be going prior to that like there might be in other years.

Might be two QBs going in before 18 this year. Might be only one. There are scenarios out there where Geno Smith may fall so there might not be one QB taken before 18.

There are no RBs that are predicted to go before 18.

There are only a couple of possible WRs before 18...maybe two get selected, maybe one, maybe none before 18.

Safety...Only seems to be 1 that might go before 18 and he might not go before 18.

I think there are only two TEs that MIGHT go in the first and I don't know if either goes before 18.

Might only be 2 CBs that go before 18. I would imagine saying one going before 18 is a lock but not sure about 2.

I don't know if there are going to be any 4-3 LBs going before 18 Maybe Teo and Ogletree. Might be some DEs that are projected to be 3-4 OLBs.

So there is a very good chance that there is a heavy run at D and O line players.

So although the past history says it is very likely that two OGs will not go before 18 or that 5 O linemen will not go before 18....this is a different type of draft where some of the other spots are a little slim in top end talent except for the Dline.

Just something to consider.

I agree.

If it's going to happen, this is a year where it's lining up well for it...or not well in Dallas' case.
It would not surprise me too much if 5 OL went before 18 (3 OTs for sure and maybe 2 OGs).
That Mock had 6 OLs going in the top 12. I think pretty much no way that happens; but can't say "never".

In this scenario Jerry better be on the phones trying to trade down. Someone will bite to get a talent like Patterson, or the #1 safety in Vaccaro. I like Sly, but not at #18. Trade back anywhere from 3-9 spots to pick up an extra 3rd + and you may still be able to get Sly. If not I would have no problem taking Werner, Cyprien, Elam or Watson.

My guess is that Jerry would take Vacarro at 18 if he was there and all of the rest of those guys were gone. Just a guess.

Although both Marinelli and Kiffin have said that a good DT3 is a key driver in makin gthat defesne work. Others have also said that the Dline drive this scheme more than anything.

I'd be fine with Sly Willimas.

Here are Kiper's remarks on him. He currently has him rated as the 16th best player overall:

" Has really impressed in workouts. Stock is up. Williams has a knack for jumping the snap, and his initial quickness and small-area power can be disruptive. The tackles for loss pile up because of it. He has a lot of natural gifts and is quick for his size. He has good feet, a strong punch to get defenders off-balance and great energy. He's a leverage guy with quickness but will occasionally chase down plays. Tackles with force. "

Not bad

I don't either.

All this hype about his feet reminds me of the pre-draft hype behind Free and his athleticism.

Maybe not top ten,,, but early. I think there is a misconception about a "deep" draft for OL meaning we can snatch up first and second round OL talent in the later rounds, which I seriously doubt. If there are a lot of first and second round talented OL in the draft there will be a ridiculous early run on OL players and they will all be GONE by the third round, if not sooner.

Just not sure I like them where they were picked.

If that makes sense.

makes perfect sense. both guys should be drafted about 10 spots later IMHO.

if margus hunt and kyle long go in the first round i'd be shocked.

to me neither guy can play every down in the nfl.
hunt lacks balance and leverage so is a kick blocking specialist imho.

long has some potential but is not agile enough at tackle nor strong enough at og imho. might make a good blocking tight end in the martyb mold.

Yuck. I can stomach Pugh in the second, but not Williams that high. Trade back in the first and I'll feel better.
