Melton might be deactivated for Brent this week

I am going to be interested to see who is inactive between Josh Brent and Henry Melton this week. Earlier on Friday, Garrett was asked what he needed to see from Brent and his reply was “more snaps.” With the way the Commanders like to run the ball with Alfred Morris, the idea might be to have a bigger body at the point of attack instead of the lighter Melton. There were some whispers even before Brent was ready for action that it was Melton’s spot that could be in question. With Terrell McClain, the coaches have to flexibility to play him at either the under-tackle or nose, so that will protect them in case they want to sit Melton.

Maybe Melton is not really healthy? If he is and they still inactivate him that says a lot.

Red wants "more snaps" for Brent. I am looking forward to seeing him keep our LBs clean v. Skins and shut Morris down.

Yes, I'm curious who will be inactive if Brent is active. There's always a slight chance that they could go lean at another position and carry and extra DT.

This has been a reoccuring theme, it's pretty obvious the coaching staff is not too high on Melton.

What the heck happened to Melton? A few weeks back he was coming on strong, but lately he numbers have been zilch. We need him at his best.

I

I don't get the Hayden hate. We he lacking in talent he makes up for it in heart. The dude leaves it all on the field
He's not the future, but like him in the present!

If Brent is going to be activated to play the 1 spot then Hayden who is consistently ineffective should be the one having a seat. I like the effort but he needs to produce more at his spot. 1 techs can't constantly be handled one on one. He fails to draw the double team which is vital to his position.

I don't know why. All the guy has done for this franchise is play 32 consecutive games. He also caused and INT last week.

True. But....
Assuming Brent is healthy and can provide a productive 30-35 snaps, I don't think you need both Brent and Hayden active. You simply can't play both. It won't matter much vs Washington so who knows what they'll do. But in the playoffs, Hayden IMO will be the odd man out. While Melton may have been disappointing, he still gives them flexibility as a 3 and sometimes kicking outside to DE at times due to his quickness and athleticism.

This is a huge week for Brent. He has to prove he can be counted to give the team a full game's worth of snaps at the 1. If he does, I think you'll see him assume the primary 1 role going forward. If not, they will have to keep Hayden active probably putting Meltons spot in jeopardy for the playoffs.

He constantly gets beat one on one and the extra blocker is free to hit the second level on runs plays and is able to double team other Dlineman on pass situations. Need a 1 tech that can draw the double team which leaves the other lineman isolated in their matchups.
