Ah, the light may be starting to come on for some, FINALLY. A few who actually pay attention have been trying to tell everyone that its not, and hasnt always been Jerry. Just because Jerry TALKS about stuff with the team DOES NOT mean that he dictated what would happen.

Jon Machota @jonmachota Follow Henry Melton said Rod Marinelli, Jason Garrett and Stephen Jones handled his signing.

It's become apparent that a growing amount of authority is being exercised by Stephen Jones and Jason Garrett. There have been a lot of things that seemed to contradict it at times. Who was behind the hiring and firing of assistant coaches was never very clear. The still evolving role of the various people involved in calling the offensive plans is even more enigmatic, although at first blush it would look like something that was being dictated to the head coach by the owner. And Jerry Jones was never shy about declaring that the buck clearly stopped with him.

But now, we have a free agent signing that was seen widely as the make or break move by the Cowboys - and Melton clearly and plainly states that Jerry Jones was nowhere to be seen.

For years, fans and critics of the Cowboys alike have been asking, begging, and screaming for Jerry Jones to give up his general manager duties. It may have happened, and almost no one realized it had actually taken place.

Interesting information. Hopefully Jerry will allow Stephen and Jason to run the draft as well.

LOL I'm sorry but I find this hard to believe that our GM wasn't a part of the negotiations.

There was a stipulation in his contract that said he had to tell the media Jerry Jones was not at the table. *sarcasm*

Let's not forget he's from Dallas and his agent essentially came up with the option one-year try-out deal per reports.

I give them credit for calling his bluff and letting start out the door to St Louis but the contract was drawn up by his agent. He probably told his agent I want to get back to my A game with Marinelli and they knew it.

You mean like listen to Marinelli and reject Floyd and then take Frederik and then have Marinelli recruit Melton?

GM's delegate. The only reason its hard to believe is because of the mediot created job description for Jerry that people willingly choose to believe.

And there is a problem with how that played out?

How did Floyd work out in Minn?

Did I say their was a problem? I like the spin though that this signing of Melton is about Stephen Jones (which is never in dispute that he's part of the mess cause he's an idiot as well) and Garrett finally having control, when this is nothing but Marinelli's 'boy' and an agent of Melton proposing the contract..

Maybe this was part of Jerry's training wheels program for Garrett for defense...

So essentially, he is here because of Marinelli, yet the spin is that it's Jones and Garrett having increasing control?

So we have the DC on our staff that coached Melton previously involved in recruiting the guy, and maybe even the main reason he chose Dallas over other options if he had any because he liked playing for Marinelli, and the HC and the owner's son who handles the salary cap for the team making decisions on personnel - and somehow thats SPIN? Or the fact that the player personnel guy and the HC with some control on those areas - and somehow its SPIN?

Your whole article is founded on the presumption that Jerry is making way for these guys, as if they had no control in the first place. So this would tend to imply Jerry totally messed things up and is ceding control.

Uh sorry, Stephen Jones has always been part of this mess and so has Garrett. It's not about ceding control. The only good thing about this is, Marinelli and his influence, being the DC.

Uh, it's a negative for those trying to say Garrett is in control and is the reason Melton is here, when Jerry bypassed Garrett and Tom because of Marinelli and Marinelli is sitting in the room in contract negotiations.

who knows... I don't care.....
I just want "management", whatever/whoever that is, to make better decisions.
and this was a solid decision....

I won't vilify them for yesterday if they do a better job today...
However, management has to do consistently better to gain back the trust of most fans who have seen almost 20 years go by without success..

I haven't heard a single person say garrett is in control. Garrett would be there being the coach a lot like anyone else boss is their for their hiring.

Everybody knows Jerry Jones loves himself some Marinelli... That's why they kept Kiffen as a consultant, instead of firing him and made Marinelli DC.

How this somehow makes Garrett a genius, I'm trying to understand. Because dude sat at the table when he signed?
