Since Melton's option was not picked up, therefore making him a FA. Would we get a comp pick for him.
Not sure if that is like releasing him to make him an UFA or not. My guess that is the same as releasing him since his it wasn't an expired contract. But I am not 100% sure on that.

Yes, if Crawford had not played as well as he had, Dallas would have been forced to keep Melton. Crawford's play made it only necessary to find a good complement to him.

Melton- 15 tackles, 5 sacks...coming off major injury.

Hitchens, Lee and Crawford ? Please recall Lee has never played a whole season and Hitchens and Crawford was played most of the season. So that leaves us with 2 holes.

Bruce Carter's career has been up and down like a yo-yo.

Melton was meh. Of the 2, I would have kept Carter at the right price....
