What is with coverage duties???? They both played the SAME position!!! Stop making up reasons why Ware didn't win the award and just give Merriman his due credit. Merriman has the LT mentality, that's what made me surprised at the fact Bill Parcells didn't draft him. I don't think Ware possesses enough of a mean streak at this stage in the game, plus he went through a rather long dry spell in the middle of season where he was a non-factor.

Ware learned a new position- Merriman already had experience there. That and frankly I think Merriman was given freedom to do what he wanted a lot mroe then Ware was. Look at their stats and Ware has better ones everywhere except sacks. Ware really impacted several games- Merriman had sacks and such but never took over a game.

3 sports -- you might want to concentrate on the other two b/c you aren't watching enough football. The play the same position but the defensive philosophies are completely different as are how they are used on the field.

Depending on the play Ware had to drop in to coverage to cover the te. That would tend to take away from ones ability to rush the passer on that play.

I'm not taking anything away from Merriman. He earned it.

I never understood why TFL doesn't get more attention than it does.

Blowing up a running play 3 yards in the backfield is more or less just as good as a 5 or 6 yard sack.

Merriman had two more sacks. Ware had five more tackles for loss (or six, depending on the source) and one more forced fumble.

Quite frankly he has more of Lavar Arringtons mentality than LT's. He disappeared in as many games as Ware did, but just didn't string them all together. He was definitley more free to attack the qb.
