Rumors are that Merriman has been put on the trading block by the Chargers. So I have a few questions for you all, if we could get him would you want him? If so what would you want to give for him? and anything else you have to say? What would we do with Spencer?

here is a format incase you wish to follow one
Code:
If we could get Merriman from the Chargers, would you want him?
What would you do with spencer and our other rookies (Butler, B. Williams)?
What would you want to give the Chargers for him (make it credible)?
Do you think it would be worth it?
Other info?

Me:
If we could get Merriman from the Chargers, would you want him? Yes
What would you do with spencer and our other rookies (Butler, B. Williams)? Save to move up in the draft, for example, Butler and 2nd round pick (#9 in 2nd) for #1 in 2nd, or a variation on that.
What would you want to give the Chargers for him (make it credible)? 2nd (2011), 3rd (2010), 4th (2010), 6th (2010) and Victor Butler.
Do you think it would be worth it? Yes
Other info? No

Smart move by the Chargers.

He isn't what everyone thought he was and is coming up on a contract year.

Ya the contract year is going to bring his value way down if he does get traded.

Plus everyone knows SD isn't going to resign him so they have zero leverage.

Just kind of running with this idea...

Didn't Wade coach Merriman and pretty much help draft him?

Next year IS uncapped..soo..you could sign both Ware and Merriman.

Just the thought of this makes me giddy.

well if both Ware and Merriman need to get going or it's not gonna make a difference. does Merriman even have any sacks yet this year?

wow he doesn't have any either.

I'm just thinking that if San Diego is going to not resign him anyway then that brings his value down tremendously.

I'd throw Spencer and a 4th out there and see if that sparks.

Im not a big fan of the guy, but if he is willing to play a role, and you could get him for a 5 or 6 I would be interested.

If this team turns it around and has a shot later in the year, we will need all the pass rush we can get. We started a run of offenses in november that can score an obscene amount of points.

So count me in on interested in any pass rusher for the right price, provided the player knows he is not coming to be a franchise player or whatever, just a role player.

why would anyone want to trade Victor Butler?

dude is a balla

I think the bigger questions is why would anybody WANT Merriman.

Guy has doen zilch this yr. He has a major knee condition. He's been on the downside since the moment he was busted for steroids.

He looks washed up to me.

I don't tihnk they would give him for much less than that, maybe im wrong since they do have zero leverage and in that case remove the 2nd, and change Butler to Spencer and we got a bargain.

We add Merriman and then he will be much more of a threat than Spencer, and I have to believe Merriman would've had that interception that Spencer missed vs Denver.

Merriman will be a huge asset to our Defense, and possibly the key that changes our team from 8-8 to a 10-6 or 11-5 season.

No thanks.

And trade away Butler? Why do we want to trade for stuff when things aren't going our way? Why do we want to give away picks for guys who are clearly on the trading block because the team trading him think he's spent?

Stop. We have what we have. We need to draft better and develop that talent better. If you're going to trade for something trade for a better coach and a better GM.

I haven't followed the Chargers or Shawne Merriman that much, but in all fairness to him, he's missed nearly an entire year of football, so he's rusty in that regard, plus I doubt his knee is 100% or even 80%, since tearing both the PCL and LCL.

But in my opinion, he is one of the best defensive players in the NFL when healthy, and he should be back close to 100% next year barring any setbacks. You can never have too many pash rushers. With that said, if San Diego would be willing to part with him for a third or Anthony Spencer, I would make the trade.

I would very cautious about giving up anything of major value for the guy. Lets face it, the dude was a freak of nature when he was all roided up. Once the guy got clean, his play went in the tank. Plus, he is coming off a major knee injury, I think he tore 2 of the 3 ligaments. That right there is a major flag for me.

A 3rd and a 5th is the max I offer the Chargers.

Did the thing with Tila blow over?

I don't think he would help the team at all, so I expect Jerry to give up a first and a second for him.........it's the right thing to do.
