That object is a Tank and it is coming to Dallas, possibly to replace you. If Spears doesn't show something in the next couple of games, he just may be trade-bait, either this year or next. I think Spears will bring his best game this Sunday. We'll find out if it is good enough. I'm guessing both Spears and Canty (and Hatcher and Bowen) will play well these next 5 or 6 games. If not, one will be flattened by a Tank.

If I could get a decent CB in a trade for Spears, I'd be very tempted to pull the string and go for it now.

I'm not sure I follow this.

We sign a guy who can't play for 7 weeks to be a NT, and he's supposed to replace DE Spears - who, incidentally will maintain enough trade value to snag us a decent corner (even though the team trading the corner to us could have had Tank for free, instead of the guy he replaced, theoretically).

And then, do we somehow trade him after the trade deadline?

I'm holding off on Spears and Canty until Ellis and Newman get back and we get a chance to see the real Phillips defense. If they can't produce then and get no better as the year goes on, I say try and trade either if you can.

Outstanding. Trade a guy who no one wants, for a corner that no one wants. The Cowboys are suffering with an injury riddled Sherry Glenn. The Bucs are the phone, they are asking for two first rounders for Joey Galloway.

Getting rid of Spears, regardless of whether he's a pro bowl quality player would be magnificently stupid. He's relatively cheap. He's signed for several more years. And he's a decent player. He's not a pro-bowler. He may develop into one, but at the least he's a player that isn't a liability. You can plug him in and not worry about him one bit.

Whether that type of player is a starter or a backup, you just don't get rid of them.

Exactly. The get rid of Spears talk baffles me.

I don't care how many sacks he gets. He is, if nothing else, a solid rotational DE in a 3-4 defense.

They do not grow on trees.

If by solid you mean as dominant as Marcellus Wiley, then you are right, Spears is solid. Incredible.

Hey, genius. They play completely different positions. The comparison is ridiculous.

DeMarcus Ware has all of 5 tackles, no sacks, no FF, or PDs. Cut his ***, I won't accept f'in slackers playing OLB for the Cowboys!

Well *if* Tank were in football shape and knew the defense well enough to play NT extensively, I'd say that Spears could be threatened by Ratliff at end. I thought Wade made it pretty clear in his Monday P.C. that he thought Ratliff was starter material somewhere on the line, and I think he's definitely more an end than a nosetackle.
