Well *if* Tank were in football shape and knew the defense well enough to play NT extensively, I'd say that Spears could be threatened by Ratliff at end. I thought Wade made it pretty clear in his Monday P.C. that he thought Ratliff was starter material somewhere on the line, and I think he's definitely more an end than a nosetackle.

I don't know. I think Parcells always knew he had Ratliff up his sleeve at NT. He just liked to be able to use him in the end rotation and inside as a DT on the four man lines. I think Wade realized it fairly quickly as well.

The team never really tried to get a decent backup at NT. Sure, they throw late round picks at guys looking for a bargain, but they never seemed to worried about it. I think that was mainly due to Ratliff.

I think Tank provides potential NT depth, but I think he'll get work at end and, more importantly, provide fresh pass rush inside on the nickel. With Ratliff playing nose, he isn't going always going to have that fresh burst inside on passing downs.

if you ever listened to that knuckleheads radio show, those were catch words on it...somebody that supposedly had a good call would be "racked" or the caller would say "rack me!!!"...then at the end of the call they'd say "this is Zebra, out!!" or "Butthead- OUT!!!" or whatever

Rhome was an idiot

Tank may be a bit undersized and he usually plays as LDT in 4-3.....so he might he might be more successful as LDE rather than NT in 3-4. I think it is totally possible that he could replace Spears by December. Ratliff pulls it off at NT at 300 lbs because he is extremely active, high energy guy....but Tank is not that type of player.

I'm not sure I follow this.

We sign a guy who can't play for 7 weeks to be a NT, and he's supposed to replace DE Spears - who, incidentally will maintain enough trade value to snag us a decent corner (even though the team trading the corner to us could have had Tank for free, instead of the guy he replaced, theoretically).

And then, do we somehow trade him after the trade deadline?

That object is a Tank and it is coming to Dallas, possibly to replace you. If Spears doesn't show something in the next couple of games, he just may be trade-bait, either this year or next. I think Spears will bring his best game this Sunday. We'll find out if it is good enough. I'm guessing both Spears and Canty (and Hatcher and Bowen) will play well these next 5 or 6 games. If not, one will be flattened by a Tank.

If I could get a decent CB in a trade for Spears, I'd be very tempted to pull the string and go for it now.
Good thing you don't have an agenda...
