Wouldn't Dallas be better off just giving Barber a first round tender offer? Then if the Dolphins wanted Barber, we'd get their 1st and 3rd AND we still maintain the option to just sign Barber & forego the picks

If we did this deal, we'd be left with the #1 pick, the 28th pick, no third round pick and no Barber---SUCKS!!!

Why would we give up our 1st, 3rd & Barber for their first, when if we did the latter, we'd have three 1st round picks, a second and two 3rds---Inticing BUT I just can't stand the thought of losing Barber, he's a special player.

Parcells must be blowing smoke up the medias ace, he has said countless times that its not wise to over pay for running backs.

I'm beginning to think all this talk is just to generate interest from potential trade partners, Jerry might even be playing along.

Personally, I think this is pretty nice:

Barber signed for 5 years, the 22nd pick, the 28th pick, a 2nd pick, a 3rd pick-just keep what we have and make good picks!!!

here's the thing....Miami doesn't want Barber.

The whole thing with him being included in the trade talks is that IF Jerry Jones did lose his mind and decide that he needed to trade up to #1 and draft McFadden, it would not be sensible to resign Barber. so they would tender him at the highest level while trying to trade him to a third team....in an attempt to improve one of their 1st round picks and trade that pick and the other 1st round pick to Miami.

Bottom line - a trade that makes sense for Miami doesn't make sense for Dallas and vice versa......if this trade happens it is because JJ is completely obsessed with McFadden and gives up way too much. I'm not counting on it.

I disagree wholeheartedly and here is why. #1 Marion Barber is going to cost us big $$$ in order for us to sign long term. IMO ( and i know barber had a GREAT game vs the giants) I still do not think Marion Barber is feature back (lack of explosion/ homerun threat bothers me a bit)

I also think if I had to pick 1 player and to pay them roughly equally I wouldnt even think twice and would take Dmac over barber every day of the week and twice on sundays.

However, with all that being said - I am not willing to give the up our entire draft for mcfadden. If you ask me the 22nd pick barber and a 3rd for #1 overall is a STEAL for us and I would do it without thinking twice.

Another poster brought up a great point and mentioned he wondered how long barber could last with his punishing running style. Lastly and very importantly if Barber for whatever reason does not pan out to being a franchise back RIGHT now his trade value is about as high as it is going to get.

:starspin You do make some good points about what Barber's price tag will be, and another point, that I have often thought about myself, is just how "long" will Barber's running style allow him to play? If....we do trade Barber, I wonder who Jones has in mind to replace him. Should we end up with McFadden, and knowing how Jones loves all the media attention and has lots of seats to fill in his new stadium, McFadden could end up in Dallas. If that does happen, I am curious as to who we fill Barber's spot with though? I don't see that player as being on our team at this point, so it makes me wonder who it may end up being. While I certainly appreciate Barber's efforts and hard-fought yards since he's been with us, but I've always wondered to myself - just how long will his running style allow him to continue to play at the level to which he is now known for? Plus, we know that he's going to expect a big paycheck soon, and when you combine those things along with Jones love for publicity and media attention, as well as a "draw" to help fill the seats, it wouldn't surprise me if Jones does go up to get McFadden...who knows.

Aside from being a leader in the locker room because of the way he plays the game he´s got a huge HEART, and not many players in football can say it, that´s got to be worth something.

Coy, please change your avatar. I have spent way too much time looking at it! :D

:starspin I'm certainly not advocating that Jones pull the trigger on a trade for McFadden, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones does trade for him though.

My thinking why Miami would not think of making the rumored trade.

First, They are in need of starters. Getting MBIII would take care of one, but at #22 the chances of getting an immediate contributor are slim.

The Fins can get better value for the #1 pick than we can give them. They can get a player, a first and a third from a team in the top 12 draft positions.

Barber can be had for a 1st and a 3rd when tendered. They could trade out of #1, down to say #20, get some picks and a player, then move on Barber, saving 19 positions in the move.

Jerruh needs to think about locking MBIII up before he has to tender him. If that doesn't happen, it is possible we lose him to for little or no return. Can you imagine the Giants giving us their first and third for MBIII? We would rue the day.

your plan for Miami trading down then grabbing Barber wouldn't work....if you are giving a pick as part of compensation it needs to be your original pick (or better).

...but it's all moot....Miami wouldn't want Barber. That's the biggest hurdle in all of this. He's the best expendable (because of they would draft McFadden in all scenarios) that the Cowboys have, but RB is just about the only need the Dolphins don't have.
