Micah's number going up?

Right, I agree with that premise. But we still do not know all the internal going ons with them.
Most just want to use it as a means to bag on Jerry. Because they think it is the cool thing to do.

I do not like Jerry as the GM either. But I am not going to use everything, to hate on him. I can't do anything about it, so not going to allow it to consume me.
:hammer:

Micah will be in his prime the next 5 years….TJ Watt who’s been hurt won’t be.
Us talking about the guy you were replying to his statement made no sense I mean why would you trade for the same money and get an older player It's like just people don't think before they post that would be terrible for the Cowboys...

And we can only hope the best of Parsons is ahead, and that we're paying top money for a guy who's going to be getting better and not get paid and that this is all we get is around 10 sacks a year, when guys like Watt and Garrett have had 20 plus some multiple 20 plus per year they've more than earned their money...

Let's be clear parsons wants to be the highest skilled player in the league and yet he hasn't even shown to be the best defensive end in the league yet show me where he's led the league in sacks This is where this problem comes in with guys who are demanding this he should be more realistic like when this post started 38 million I pay it in a heartbeat when a man starts pushing for 40 plus I might have to think about that...

We've seen the best defensive ends in this league We've seen them at least one year be the best defensive end and lead the league in sacks and all kinds of other things and end up with Defensive Player of the Year, Parsons hasnt got there YET.

Ware; DROY, year 4 -20 sacks, year 6 -15.5 and year 7 -19.5.. 1st team ap 4 times 2nd team ap 4 times, like 10 PB in 12 years...

You want to be paid like the big boys you better put up big boy numbers So yes you better hope that the good times are ahead but as good as his start is he's still not even DeMarcus Ware yet...

MP has a nice start at 52.5 sacks in 4 years and ware 53.5 in his first 4 years, but I want to see MORE... Before I put them on even Demarcus wears level let alone TJ Watt and Miles Garrett....

Jerry Jones will acquiesce to Parsons demands. He will be, at least for a period of time, the highest paid non-quarterback in the history of the NFL. Hopefully the contract negotiations will not adversely effect the team’s preparation for the 2025 season.

According to this article Jerry's tactic of waiting to make deals with his players is going to cost him even more than we thought. I thought the best time to sign Parsons was back in February or March. He might have gotten Micah for $37 million back then. But after Myles Garrett's deal the number sounded more like $40 million or $41 million. Now, if this report is true, it might be higher than that.

Ignoring Micah's ability on the field and what we think he might be worth, to me the lunacy of Jerry's tactics is the real story. It is amazing to me how poorly Jerry manages his money with regard to the Dallas Cowboys. This is a guy who won't pay for a free agent DT but is willing to overpay Dak and Micah for reasons I can't understand.
I would say based on our recent history that Jerry does not care if his number goes up. I think when these contracts reach a certain level that a million more APY doesn't really matter to him.

You're so right, which is why we need to stop worrying about how much he could have saved etc!! He WANTS his players to be the HIGHEST paid especially the ones deemed as "faces of the franchise!" He wants nothing more than for Watt and the guy from Cincy to get their deals FIRST so they can ACT like they're not going to pay that much, and BOOM he's the highest paid!!! I don't get the logic in this

Why is it Jerry's fault. It could be Micah and his agent refusing to deal and sign back then.
We have no idea he would have signed for less back then.
How do we know Jerry did not offer $38 million, and his agent said, no, $42 million.
If this were an isolated incident I would fully agree, but it’s hard to give Jerry benefit of the doubt when this is such a reoccurring theme for the cowboys.

TRADE FOR PICKS
FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE JERRY, MAKE A GOOD FOOTBALL MOVE.

The whole duality thing is stupid and played out to me...

But I wish posters on this board would address these situations as if a duality is taking place...because all signs point to a duality...

I'm sure posters and original thread starter don't want to play that game because it's boring and against the narrative...
Explain what you mean by duality in this case? Are you referring to the comparison of two players, like Watt and Parsons?

Or are you referring to the two sides in the negotiations?

I realize two things.

1. No matter what Jerry does, it has no effect whatsoever on my life. It is what it is.
2. Even if he gets Micah for a bargain price, he will not use the money for a quality free agent to help build a contending team.

Having said that, I just feel like all these bad moves are indicative of the bigger problem. A rash, for example, never appears life threatening, but it could be a sign of a more dangerous disease. Jerry's trades, Jerry's contract deals, always seem to be dumb and that is the real problem. It is the answer to why we have not seen a Super Bowl in over 30 years. The Owner and GM keeps doing dumb things. Each thing may seem inconsequential, but add them all up and you get a SB drought that looks like it will never end. Once in a while I just wish there was a sign that something is different and things are looking up.

In the case of big contracts, I am reminded of the movie Battle: Los Angeles. The Sergeant Major says you can go left, you can go right. Just make a decision. That's what you expect from a leader. People just want to know the plan. Jerry seems to march to his own drum, which only he can hear and there doesn't appear to be a plan in place.

But look at thenmedia attention and publicity jerrybis getting. Who cares about the numbers. There is a cap for cost control. And Jerry doesn't care how the moneybis distributed. The extra jersey sales will cover the extra cost fornparsons.

How many times was it the same agents. And most agents are the same anyway.
More for their client, more for them. Then they get more clients, because the get the rep of getting more money.

Are you pleased with how Jerry handled both of Dak's contracts beyond his rookie deal?

Sure I would agree, and certainly this is something every team goes through at some point. The issue is the Cowboys seem to have an unproportionate issue compared to the rest of the league when it comes to signing players at the last moment, and spending money in March/April/May/June.

Since 2020 here are the major extensions the Cowboys have had (3+ years/$8M+):

  • OSA - March 4th - About to be FA
  • Dak - September 8th
  • Lamb - August 26th
  • Steele - September 3rd
  • Hooker - August 4th
  • Diggs - July 25th
  • Dlaw - March 14 (Pay cut)
  • Gallup - March 13th (About to be FA)
  • Dak - March 9th (About to be FA or 2nd year tag)
  • Cooper - March 16th (About to be FA)
There are simply zero examples of guys signing monster deals either right before they hit FA or late in the offseason. Now pre 2020 I don't think the Cowboys were quite as cheap of an organization, but you still had mixed data to go off of. Seems like it was more of a transition period with how they elect to spend money.

DLaw was signed early, however I think that may have been the year he forced their hand with putting off surgery in 2019. Jaylon Smith, Zeke both late summer singings in 2019, but then you also had Jarwin done early, Quinn signed early, Martin was reasonable with early June extension. Witten was an early offseason on his last major deal in 2017, etc.

As far as recent history though I simplys struggle to see how the Cowboys manage extensions is anything but a result of the philosophy of ownership. Everything suggests that they prefer to wait it out. Jerry has even suggested that himself many times.
