On his radio show right now.

Tried to give Roy Williams advice during Training Camp.

One example in particular, Michael Irvin was giving Roy Williams some advice about going on over the middle. Michael Irvin told Roy to keep his hands down when trying to catch the ball over the middle. He said, you want to catch the ball on your body and limit amount of exposure your ribs have. He said, when they hit you while your hands are up, the ball is going to come out are go up in the air. He said when you catch the ball on your body, when they hit you it will stick to you.

Michael Irvin said that Roy was like, "Yeah I hear ya, but I don't like to do that".

Michael Irvin says that Roy Williams just doesn't listen and maybe this adversity is the best thing to happen too him.

Michael Irvin says this adversity would make Roy Williams listen.

Michael Irvin says he is making a lot money but not putting it together on the football field.

Michael Irvin says he was trying to talk to Roy and give him advice, but felt Roy didn't want it.

Michael Irvin said I tried to tell Roy that I had a job to due and had to analyze the Cowboys and the players. Michael told him, personally, I want the Cowboys to win more than anyone.

Michael Irvin says that in Detroit, you can hide but in Dallas you cannot hide. It will be national news and the media will come down on you when you make that kind of money and not producing.

Welcome to Dallas Roy :laugh2: .

Maybe catching it with his chest (which seems like terrible advice to me) will help Tony throw accurate balls his way or allow them to make the same read on an option route.

It would help if 9 would throw it in his general area code too.

Irvin is a great WR. As for Roy he and Romo will have to work things out on their own.

Michael is absolutely right and he also absolutely knows coaches don't preach part of what he's saying. If anything they preach the opposite.

Realisitcally speaking when the ball is thrown high, if RW doesn't make an attempt, or raises his arms short enough to make an attempt while at the same time protecting his ribs, the so called " experts " will quickly jump on him for having " alligator arms ". That's why he said he doesn't like it.

Also, keep in mind that ( and again Michael is technically correct because he was an expert at it so I'm not calling him out ) WR coaches, offensive coordinators and even headcoaches ALWAYS preach to WRs to catch the ball with their hands and not their bodies. " Don't ever let it get to you body "...

It is best to catch the ball with your hands. However when going across the middle I don't see what's wrong with his advise. Otherwise you end up like RW did in Denver gotta protect yourself along with the ball. Fully extended your self when coming across the middle is just asking to get hurt.

Despite whatever emotions are flying about in this thread, I will be the first to say that I would not mind seeing Michael Irvin as a coach for the Cowboys in some capacity.

Garrett HC, Sherman OC, Irvin WR Coach?

Irvin has already said that he doesn't have the temperament. He would strangle someone. (or cut them with scissors)

Irvin is not talking about extending for a high throw as you guys have suggested. He never had alligator arms at all, he would always go up and make the play. He is more talking about the throws in the number range where you have a choice to put your hands in front of your body or catch it against the chest.

It is good advice although like some have said but it is not preached that way.

So you disagree that Roy should be gratefully taking the advice of one of the best receivers of all time?

Even if he doesn't apply it all, he should listen and thank him for offering his thoughts on Roy's gameplay.

This is also completely irrelevant to how Tony is throwing to him. Roy's skills should be there whether Tony hits him in the numbers, a foot behind him or at his shoelaces.

The problem is legends aren't always good teachers. They have all this knowledge that they just want to give back, but sometimes it's contrary to what coaches traditionally do.

You see it in this thread (Mike's advice) and in other sports where a great player came back and tried to translate their knowledge and passion to others. It doesn't always work.

Another thing, what if Irvin is suggesting advice that Roy's wide receivers coaches have taught him otherwise over the years.

Nothing wrong with listening respectfully, but I think one should always listen with a filter. Take what works and toss out the rest.
