You other jar heads got me pretty confused talking D.I. and battalions, so it's with the utmost respect I'm asking this of you
@LandryFan ,seeing how we've both "starched a cover" and served at the same time(my first year was your last) all I recall from boot was 3 phases,so when I'm hearing battalion I'm kinda like
Hey there Melonfeud, hope I'm understanding your question correctly...I was a DI from 1976-78, so some things might have changed, but I doubt it. When referring to "Battalions", we were simply referring to a troop level within the training organization. A Recruit Training Regiment starts with the Platoon (4 per Company). Then, four Companies make up a Battalion. Finally, three Battalions compose the Regiment).
DI's typically identify with the Battalion to which they are assigned because they train multiple platoons (but always within the same Battalion), whereas recruits usually identify more with the platoon that they trained in because they're associated with only that one platoon.
Boot camp is still conducted in three phases but some things might have changed (I have heard that recruits no longer perform "mess duty", for example).
Hope I cleared up your confusion, but if I didn't, don't blame me...I'm just a dumb ol' jar head, after all.
