Michael Sam waived

I saw this story being talked about today for the first 15 minutes of ESPN's NFL Live. I've never heard of this much time being spent talking about a practice squad player being released. I think it's wrong to do so when there are so many other Cowboys related stories to talk about.

Did they criticize us for it?

??? Your opinion makes no sense. He was cut for football reasons and nothing else. If he deserved to stay due to football reason he would still be here. If politics played any part in his signing or being released, then it is truly sad. The fact remains that he has been released by two NFL teams now meaning he is not all that. If he was, he would still be here or on the Rams.

Like I said, he is practice squad material and deserves to be on a practice squad because he has a history of producing. I may not be an "expert" but I can assure you that is at least on par with the non-existent pass rush we have currently.

DeMarcus Ware isn't on our 53. Jeremy Mincey is.

You'll never understand me because I use my brain when evaluating football. I don't blindly assume my team makes all the right decisions. Especially when they haven't won anything since Clinton's first term.

Two professional teams have given up on him so far and the draft was only 5 months ago. That's all I'm saying.

The same brain that openly mocked Marinelli the entire offseason and basically insinuated we'd be fielding the worst defense in the history of professional sports?

The same brain that openly mocked Crawford's potential as a DL?

Sounds to me like you need a new brain.

I don't think Risen was being serious there. He can't have been, because he's touting his track record, which we've all seen is not much more than a collection of strong declarations and some pretending to look the other way when the frequent mistakes are brought up.

The good news is, the frequency of the words 'fanboy,' 'foam finger,' and 'slop' have decreased on CZ over the last several weeks. That's been kind of nice.

I'm one of Sam's biggest supporters but I'm okay with the move. I do believe that Sam is talented enough to be on an NFL practice squad, but that doesn't mean he should be on ours. Believe me, I've been hoping all season he'd make the 53 and shut the world up. But the practice squad is where you stash guys to call up later. If a player at position X gets hurt, you call up a guy from the practice squad who plays position X. I just think we have too many guys ahead of him that play his position who we would call up before him. We barely have room for guys like Ken Bishop who might be our future 1-tech. Sam might be back, but at the moment we have no room for him (even on the practice squad) and probably had no intention of calling him up this season. I was all for calling him up back when I thought we'd be a historically bad defense. Now that we're actually good, I definitely wouldn't trust a rookie 7th round pick to come in and have an impact. Heck, I barely even trust our 2nd rounder DeMarcus Lawrence.

If I was Sam, I tried to get on a CFL team and show the NFL what he can do.
I think that is his best chance. If he does really have the talent, he can show case it there for the NFL to see.

I'm guessing the staff didn't see enough in practice to keep Sam around any longer. Not a huge deal to me either way, but just based on his track record, I would've given him a little more time.

I can remember the criticism from many posters on this very forum claiming it would be a circus and a distraction with him on the team. 6-1 record and probably the best chemistry we have seen from this team in quite some time. So much for that theory.

unfortunate he's the only practice squad nobody that cant play that when released makes nfl.com headlines. Someone should sue them for putting one practice squad player above the others just because of his sexual preference.

The same brain that has been more right on this team than most. Yes.

Hold on to your hat here, I still think Marinelli is overrated and this defense sucks.

I openly mocked Crawford? Did you run out of ammo and decided to make things up?

What has Crawford done anyway? Did I miss something?

He's just not that good...

He was good enough to temporarily stick to two NFL teams. Both of which are now deep at DE thanks to us getting some health back at that position. In limited preseason action, he performed. Someone will groom him.

He will never amount to much..

All rookies deserve no less than 3 years to prove one way or the other. Thank goodness for my boy OScan. If it were left up to some of you he would be shucking corn at the local buffet. Sam will have opportunities and they may come later in big D.

He's a distraction..

Such bull. The guy has been nothing short of a class A teammate since Dallas brought him into the fold. Don't blame him because the media can't move along with milestones in time. The guy thanked everyone possible in Dallas for the opportunity. Classy individual.

.....he's a rookie. Fans usually have all the patience in the world for even third/fourth year players . Some people probably still want adrian Hamilton or are waiting on Kyle Wilbur

Patience? Fans generally don't CARE about third/fourth year players, low round-drafted players unless they have a connection to them in some way. If Michael Sam wasn't who he is, most people wouldn't even care if he got cut. Do you know how many heralded college players don't make the NFL? The fact Sam didn't make an NFL roster isn't really that shocking.

A history of producing in the NFL?

Danny Kanell had a history of producing ... in COLLEGE.
Tim Tebow had a history of producing ... in COLLEGE.
Archie Griffin had a history of producing ... in COLLEGE.
Andre Ware had a history of producing ... in COLLEGE.
Aundrey Bruce had a history of producing ... in COLLEGE.

I think you get my point. :)
