A friend of mine got a new computer with Vista. I have had a chance to work on it some and frankly I hate it. Give me WIndows XP any time. Am I just reacting badly to change - what do you guys think?

I don't have it yet...but I sure haven't heard many good things about it.

I have installed it twice, once at work and once at home, and both times I have erased it and reinstalled XP.

Ive got it running on my PC. I dont mind it really, i like some stuff better than XP really, but it still gives my computer some strange issues sometimes.

I haven't had a whole lot of problems with it..... that was until my live draft for FF on ESPN. Every time someone in the draft ran out of time on the draft clock the draft application locked up.... I was so pissed off. I ended up autodrafting 4 RBs in the first 4 picks because I couldn't get back in at first.

I think it was Vista's fault.

Bought 2 new PC's with it for my biz and I've had no problems with it.

What I've found in the past it that when you try to install a new OS, you have lot's of problems. If it's pre-installed, then it runs a lot smoother.

Hmm...maybe people should do a complete install from scratch instead of upgrading from the winxp OS to the vista.

I can't say that is the problem as I have not had a chance to use vista but that might be something for others to consider...instead of upgrading on an existing OS just do a clean install.

That is a great point .... Its always best to do a clean install instead of an upgrade

I bought two copies on day one. Built two computers specifically with "Vista" parts. Have loved it from day one with very few issues. Much more mature OS than Vista from day one. Far more secure and stable than XP even today. Vista Media Center blows XP MCE away as well. As one who tests different hardware systems, I think many like the look of Vista, but are a little frustrated at some things being different. I also think what's below the surface is frustrating because M$ unwisely let's people see too many system performance stats without explaining their new memory management. The different manufacturers are failing the people too by putting out inadequate systems with the wrong versions of Vista

I agree to install from scratch. Get a new HDD and install a clean copy there, and dual boot if you need to get back to XP. I personally haven't been back to XP or OSX in months at home.

I'll never go over to the dark side.....NEVER :D

I recently turned. :(

Not because I hate PCs (love my laptop) but I need a good workstation for video editing and I wanted to give Final Cut Pro a shot. And FCP is Mac-only.

But, it works great.

:hammer: Microsoft is really giving people the shaft with their various types of "upgrade" disks. I never upgrade even with XP. It's a full virgin OS install or nothing.

You and me both, already have my Mac notebook picked out.

So do I. Its just the 3000 bucks or so holding me back. I took my mother by the Apple store here in Albuquerque the other day after lunch and she was ready to drop the 3000.......for her of course.

Problem was no one wanted to sell her one. I guess the markup on Ipods is better than on the 17" macbook pro's

I have said it many times on here I have nothing against Mac's and there are things they do better than pc's like video editing but other than surfing I use my pc for games.

When I worked at CompUSA there was a decent markup for the IPod, my 80gig cost me around $306 as opposed to the normal price of $349. I would assume Apple stores would have the same markup as well.

PC-wise I wouldn't go with a Desktop first, $3000 is an expensive gamble. At least with the notebook since I'm familiar with Linux if the wife hates it or it doesn't fit our lifestyle I can use it for myself and spend what I normally would have for a laptop, around $1400-$1500...at least on paper that's how it's supposed to work.
