Mike and Nate were on fire today

Mike and Nate talked about the conversation they had with Ed Reed regarding Garrett's simplistic offense. Mike said it doesn't matter how simple an offense it is because at the end of the day, it's about EXECUTION. Mike went on to say that their offense was simple. Everyone in the league knew what they were going to do but there is a difference in knowing what's coming and being able to stop it. Nate then chimed saying that there is nothing wrong with having a simple offense but the key is you have to have the players that are DETERMINED to make it work! They said that the it's all about winning the one-on-one matchups just about every time and that requires players that are determined to beat their man to make the offense work. Mike said if you only have 7 plays, that's all you need if you got the players with the will. No need to be tricking it up.

Of course i'm trying to remember the entire conversation and I may be leaving something out but that was the gist of it. Mike was fired up. He kinda absolved Garrett from blame a little and put it back on the players. I wish we could get Mike on the sidelines as a coach. Nate too!

If there's no need to be tricking it up, then there's no need to run a reverse on 3rd and 1.

Fire Garrett.

People are placing way to much blame on Jason G. Nate and Michael are exactly right. How complex are the Steelers, Titans, Giants, and Ravens offense?

JG has been scapegoated around here.

Now, if only they could find a receiver willing to dive for the football (or run a full route)... :p:

I agree that works IF you have the players. Most teams dont. We didnt obviously...... And we didnt figure that out through 16 friggin regular season games? Oh come on. part of RJ's job is to adapt and learn. He did neither of the two as far as I can see.

This is a GREAT concept and agree but the key as both Nate and Mike said was having the players to pull it off.

Tex, what's that saying about horses and midstream?

With this roster, we should have been able to execute. And complicating things for players who aren't doing the simple stuff right is not the sign of good coaching.

Everybody, read that and let it sink in. And then read it again. And then let it sink it again.

That is one of the best, most intelligent statements made about this team in quite some time.

Then this speaks to having a player like Irvin that would not allow anyone on the team to slack during practice.

The opening chapter in "Boys Will Be Boys," states it all.

The reason they won, and everyone on the team knew it, is Michael Irvin pushing the team to be the best.

Who does that on this team?

This is not about a coach. This is about a player that sets the bar, then stays on their butts until the deliver.

The current roster doesn't have that individual.

It's not like every team has a Michael Irvin on it. He was a special player, it's not like you can dial 1-800-Irvin, and get a WR like him.

How about the other 90% of teams that do not have a player like Irvin? How are they able to win?

so some people are confused about this concept

this philosophy works at every level right down to kids, here we come stop us

block and tackle, but Nate is right you have to have the players buy into this or it wont work

Yah run exactly what Belichick knows you're going to run. Do it and ets see how successful you're going to be. Now if it's running plays I understand but passing plays you'll get picked or stopped right away. Running you can over wil teams if you have enough guys blocking and the rb understands he has to make his man miss. But you can't be obvious with a coach like Belichick throughout the game, he'll munch you.

So it won't be a major loss if Garrett takes off.

If a simplistic offense is as good as any, losing Garrett shouldn't mean squat.

I hate when we run those reverses. We don't have the right wr's to run those. We need a Terry Glenn type to run those, not our big stiff type wr's we now have. Even T.O. is not quick enough to do those really well.

So if it's not the sceme or the offensive coordinator, I need a high paying job, I think I can be the offensive coordinator since it's so simple.

Nobody said it was simple being an OC
