I don't think so. If the Lakers were going to hire Phil Jackson, it was going to be very, very expensive and it would have cost them more then just salary, as he wanted part of the team as well. No reason for the Lakers to pay that for a season that was essentially a throw away. The Lakers were all about shedding cap this year and they've done that. Smarter to hire a guy on the cheap to coach in a season like this and simply turn him lose once you are ready to start stocking. That's exaclty what Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers appear to be doing.

I think it was pretty smart actually.

Nobodies coaching style fits this roster IMO. The roster is designed to cut cap so nobodies going to win with this talent. That's kind of what I was trying to say. The Lakers will bring in a coach they want this next time I think.

Signing Kobe to that extension wasn't a good move. I wouldn't call it stupid, but it was not a good business decision.
