Mike Fisher sums up Murray situation perfectly

To follow up on Fisher, never pay a running back for what they've done. Pay them for what they will do. That goes for all players, but especially running backs.

As he said, they are still smarting from the Marion Barber contract and the dominoes that fell after.

I guess this is the same approach that Jerry used with Garrett.

Barber=different situation. We just had a shot at the super bowl largely because of our one running back

Now how the heck do you know what any player will do? I think using Barber deal is a bit much why not use the Emmitt deal? Because things did not work out for Barber who had other issues taking place as a reason to not sign a RB in my view is a bit ridicules.

Hell lets not draft a QB since the last one we drafted which was Quincy Carter was a bone head, it makes about as much sense.

The thing I really don't understand is how Adrian Peterson is going to be that much cheaper than Murray? Shorter deal?

I like this part:

Rashad Jennings signed with the Giants for four years and $10 million. (And I know for a fact there are those inside Valley Ranch who think a back like Jennings at $2.5 mil a year would be very productive behind Dallas' line.)

And I agree.

And all this lip service by Fisher still ignores the most compelling argument for keeping Murray.

The years of search8ing for a competent running back since Emmitt to go with Romo and make this a balanced attack.

From the article:

Forget whether DeMarco is as good as Charles.

This is a Fishism. The straw man that frames the argument in a way where his assertions are correct.

Now the team may very well see it this way. And pity all of us who will see first hand that Randall is not an every down back, and tossing a fourth round pick is not the same as an MVP candidate at this position.

The league changes. There was a time a featured back was important and paid so. TImes changed and they were not.

Times have changed back for THIS TEAM. It is situational management and recognizing the commodity you have in your hand. There is a reason why a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. This is one of those times.

Jerry has convinced himself that any one of 500 running backs can handle the workload. But Murray gets the dirty yards others do not.

And that gem overrides the leagues idea of what a feature back is worth, this franchises ignorance on thinking they now have the magic touch, and a fan base who believes bromides the lkeague tosses out, until they for forced to realize that those nuggets are not cast in stone.

This team, and this fan base will rue the day they allowed Murray to leave. Even if Jerry resurrects the career of Peterson.

Listen.... closely.....

Stephen Jones: "I’ve been consistent in saying that we want to keep our good football players on our team. And I’ve been consistent in saying DeMarco Murray is one of those guys that we want to keep around. Not only is he a good football player, but better than that, he’s a top-notch individual. ... He stands for all the things we want to have as a Dallas Cowboy.''

Get closer....

Jason Garrett on DeMarco Murray: "In many ways, he established the identity of our football team. This is a hell of a football player."

Closer....

Garrett doesn't want to get into any business stuff, but he wants to make it "abundantly clear" that Murray is a hell of a football player.

Do you think the 'identity' of our football team matters to Garrett?

Murray is 26.

I don't profess to know how much Murray should get. But some of you seriously discount the chemistry this team had AND the admiraiton this coaching staff and players have for Murray! The ENTIRE position was NOT managed correctly this year. Working him like a rented mule only to dump him at seasons end is just disgusting and embarassing. Had the organization managed the position properly...Murray would have wound up with like 1400 yards and 100 fewer carries. Randle would have been developed and his burst/change of pace would have been invaluable during the playoffs. AND....AND....Murray and his camp would probably be more agreeable to a 4 year 16m deal. He is really a 20 carries per game RB in my opinion anyway. But he goes for almsot 2000 yards and you want to toss him on the scrap heap? Unreal!!!!!

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter if that's important to JG or not. And, if Joseph Randle was running the rock, he'd be part of what establishes the "identity." Murray is a tough runner and good teammate, no doubt, but the more important identity he has established is that he can't hold onto the freaking football.

And he'll be 27 next year.

You're right. That's why, besides Murray, we've had good ones such as Barber, Felix, Randle, rashad Lee, julius Jones, troy.hambrick that have really put us over the edge
None of them played with an offensive line and others didn't even have a QB.

I think you're nuts if you think Murray is the guy that put this team "over the edge."

Ugh, where were you this year?! How is that even a question?

Hey guys, let's go back to a platoon of JAGS. Cause our offensive line is that good!! Wishful thinking.

I guess the identity could be a guy who cannot consistently move the chains, but one in a while breaks off a wonderful move, yet the team is not near as potent with the new guy.

I like Murray but think it is time to move on to a younger player that would not only be cheaper but also have more tread on the tires. Spend the money saved from letting Murray walk on a better right tackle or along the defensive line.
