What did you guys think about Mike Jenkins trying to lateral his interception to Terence Newman?

I haven't re-watched the game, but after the Eagles recovered the ball, Mike Jenkins was laying down and I believe one of the lineman came up and slapped him on the head :).

I remember Cris Collinsworth criticizing Terence Newman for asking for the ball.

Sham ripped Newman for asking for the ball also. Newman should know better. I have a feeling he wouldn't have done that if the game was tighter.

Jenkins had the opportunity for a clean lateral, but took too long deciding. By that time he was being wrapped up and the defender was trying to poke it lose.

I like the lateral call if its there, and you act on in quickly. Ed Reed pulled it off against NE, but if we get a pick in the next game, just get as many yards as possible and go down.

I can't believe people are ripping Newman for asking for the ball. It's up to the player with the ball to know whether it's safe to do that or not, and right then it wasn't.

Just shows how polar people are. Right now Jenkins is bulletproof and Newman is a JAG, so we're going to blame Newman.

Don't you dare try to stick up for Newman.

I think they get equal blame.

Agreed. While I don't think Newman should have been asking for the lateral...

It was Jenkin's decision. He had the ball. It was his choice to lateral it... or eat it. And he chose to lateral the ball.

HIS decision. Not Newman's.

Thankfully, it didn't bite us. But that's on Jenkins; not Newman.

It's a learning experience. When the opportunity arises again, Jenkins will get the ball to another player cleanly. That's what playmakers do.

Ravens did it as well in their game vs the Pats off an int. Newman could have been standing there begging for it but it is up to Jenkins not to do that. I'm not going to get to down on Jenkins, he has been playing great ball for us but he made a mistakes and I don't think he will make that mistake again.

Newman is the vet that is supposed to help the guy under duress. Jenkins had 2 guys all over him. Bad decision on both parts.

Stupid on both player's part. I don't care if the player is a rookie, a vet, playing at an All-Pro level or about to get waived.

Stupid!

Learn from it and move on.

It is, but Newman's the vet, he should know better too.

I think Jenkins wanted the D to take it to the house. Kinda like the ultimate clincher in the game. He definately got greedy.

I thought it was a swell idea. Really great. Just like I was telling my pal, Napoleon, once. Nap, I said, how's about invading Russia in winter. Or like I mentioned to my buddy, General Custer: what say you split your column and go after them Indians. Bet there aren't but a couple dozen out there.

In other words, I hope Wade had a little to say about playing smart and keeping focus. Those 2 personal fouls on Hamlin didn't help my blood pressure either.

Not a big deal to me... i like the aggressiveness behind it.... Teams like the Ravens do this all the time... more often than not it works like a charm and they score, or get much more yardage out of the return...

I don't think you can really blame either of them... I wouldn't want to take the desire to turn a big play into a bigger play away from them...

Why Ed Reed is a vet and he did it as well, difference was one was a fumble the other wasn't. The ball carrier is responsible for the ball no one else I don't care what Newman did.

We had already sealed the game. That's why he did it. Seriously, Jenkins wouldn't have tried it in a 7 point game. He was trying to style on them, pure and simple.

Maybe so but it is always better to protect the ball than to be careless with it. I would be more understanding had we been losing by a large margin and was trying to make something happen much like a kick return where guys start tossing the ball all over the place. However this was not the case and even Rat made sure to let Jenkins know you screwed up I have no doubt that Wade and Campo told him the same thing.

I've got mixed feelings about that,,, it's nice that they are thinking "big play" but they should be mindful of the game situation and act appropriately. If your offense can't score and you're behind then by all means lateral the ball, otherwise quit showing off and taking unnecessary chances. No doubt this is going to be a "lesson learned" topic for the coaches this week, so maybe it was a good thing that it happened.
