Uh, except Martz has gotten almost as many yards with Shaun Hill/J.T. O'Sullivan at QB, 36 year old Isaac Bruce at WR, along with a bunch of nobodies and a bust TE (Vernon Davis), plus a mediocre offensive line, as Jason Garrett has gotten with the best offensive nucleus in football.

I'll repeat, 3700+ yards on 7.3 yards per pass attempt. With THOSE guys.

If he brought his dizzying system to Dallas, they might not even need a running game.

Jason Garrett doesn't even HAVE a system. He basically tells Romo to go out there and improvise.

Well, they'll be 10-6 next season.

Thats more than enough wins to get into the playoffs in the NFC West. Martz's big mistake was sticking with O'Sullivan who pretty much cost Nolan his job. Once Singletary saw O'Sullivan for one game he chose to go with Hill. I'm not saying that Hill is great, but it's no secret that in this league you can't have a QB who is careless with the ball.

One thing is for certain. Alex Smith will be a free agent next year.

Jason Garrett sucks, but Fartz isnt the answer to the question.

My comment was meant to be a positive not a pejorative. 10-6 is fine improvement for any losing club with little talent.

Why not? Because the formula for an offense with Owens, Roy Williams, Witten, Bennett, Austin, and Crayton is "run, run, run, run, run?"

You guys are assuming Felix is even the same after a severe injury...and forget that Barber was not nearly as effective this year as he had been in the past.

Martz at least coordinated a Super bowl champ and head coached another one that fell victim to Vinitari's last second foot.

Garrett has no such resume.

Point taken.

But Martz has not adjusted well when teams caught up to his scheme, which left the quarterback under immense pressure.

Romo needs to be protected from himself. If we don't get this guy a good running game to protect him, I fear his confidence will sink drastically if we don't make the playoffs next year, not to mention the bad habits which will be hard to break with another year in this fling-it-to-win-it offense.

I guess the title pretty much explains itself.

3700+ passing yards this year with the freak'n 49ers offense. Can you IMAGINE what he'd do with this offense?

My god no. Do you understand what the Martz offense is all about?

Football isnt always about numbers. Do a little bit of reading on Martz's offense and you might change your mind.

Yeah, heaven forbid you hire the offensive mastermind who has been two two Super Bowls, winning one, with a unit that scored 500+ points in his system with him calling the plays for 3 consecutive years...then continued to be an effective, top-5/7 unit for nearly every season after that.

The Lions let Mike Martz go after last season. I think they might regret that a bit now.

I don't need to do any reading on it; I've seen his system in action with my own eyes. He makes mediocre players look unstoppable at times.

He'd wet himself if he were this team's OC, and the fans would wet themselves when they saw the product on the field.

You are a complete imbecile. My God...

Type the words "Mike Martz offensive mastermind" into google and see the thousands of articles that come up.

He's one of the most respected offensive minds in the history of the NFL and unquestionably one of the greatest.

Yes, after back-to-back 4,000+ yard seasons with Kitna (both on 7+ yards per pass attempt), the Lions thought "hey, you know what? WE NEED TO RUN DA BALL" (not even factoring in the fact that their offensive line and RBs were horrid). They fired him.

Look at what happened.

Looks like it was the right decision.

This team needs to run a West Coast offense. The short passing game and middle of the field needs to be utilized better particularly with a great TE, two big physical receivers, and a mobile qb. More three step drops will do wonders for the pass protection and take pressure off of Romo. Martz's Air Coryell isn't the answer, though it would be preferable to whatever offense Garrett is trying to run.

I'm all about the WCO with the guys we have. We have all the necessary components and it fits our players better, IMO. That's why I want Holmgren in here. That's not going to happen, but that's what I want.

I could live with the West Coast offense if you could give me the one S.F. had in 1998 with Steve Mariouci (?)

It had a power running game. It was punishing. Kevin Gogan was on that line.

Yeah, I want to run it, and I want the ball out quicker. You can still get your big plays.

Romo has an incredibly quick release and it would allow him to get in a rhythm... This offense lacks total rhythm..

Dude, ***? Who gives a $%$%$% about yards!!!!!??!!!??

So, the Niners threw for 3700 yards this season.

Big.

Freaking.

Whoop.

They also p***** for 21 TDs and 19 Ints. Also gave up more sacks than anyone in the NFL. 54, not including today's game.

That does not a good season make.

Similar numbers for his time in Detroit. Long on yards and pass attempts, short on TDs and scoring. Also sack city. Lots and lots of sacks. In other words, they sucked. And Martz sucks.

edit: really? "p*a*s*s*e*d" is a swear word now? Swear filters suck.
