Mike Mayock: EJ Manuel second-best QB in NFL draft

Is EJ Manuel the second-best quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft? According to NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock, that's exactly what he is.

Mayock released the third edition of his position-by-position draft prospect rankings Thursday, and the biggest head-turner came under center, where Manuel, the Florida State passer, shot up to No. 2 behind West Virginia's Geno Smith.

When Mayock released the second edition of his list on the heels of the NFL Scouting Combine, Manuel wasn't even in the top five.

Without realizing it Mayock has explained exactly why I do not want this QB.

EJ has always been so inconsistent and even now you will have people talking about him being raw and needing improvement.

In some games he can show flashes of greatness but it is rarely, if ever, over an extended period of time because there are always a few games where he looks very inaccurate, confused and just makes plays that makes you scratch your head wondering what the heck this guy is thinking or seeing.

He is one of those QBs where you fall in love with his size and athletic ability (movement and arm strength) and add into it those few games where he looks all world and it tends to make you push those head scratcher moments and bad games back when they should stay up in front.

I don't think he is a bad kid by any stretch so you don't have character issues to be worried about.
I don't think the kid is dumb by any stretch.

I just think he is very inconsistent and has been for some time.

For years I have heard how this year is going to be the year he puts it together and yet again we still read how he is raw and will need time.

No thank you.

I would pass on him or I should say I would rather us take a look at other QBs in the draft. Some may not be from a bigger school like FSU. Some may not have the size he has, some may not have the arm strength, some may not have the mobility or other athletic abilities...but I would rather have a player that is more consistent who might just need a little better talent around them. OR a player that was from a very small school who has a great deal of potential with the proper resources around him...somewhat raw but high upside. Not someone from a bigger school that has shown he just can not seem to get it together.

Of course that is just my opinion on him.

I linked that article with you in mine. :D

The only way I would take EJ is after the 5th.

Several months ago there were posters on this board that thought there would be eight to ten QBs in this draft with first round talent. It looked like a good draft for QBs right up to the point where the college started. Those eight to ten prospects all blew it this season. I don't think there is a legit first round QB talent in the draft. I expected one or two of these guys would have stood out from the rest. It didn't happen. There is not a QB in this draft that I want to see as a Cowboy .

Dont like his accuracy or decision making. Still think Jerry has his eye on Johnny Football in 14.
