Mike's lockroom halftime speech

It's been a long time, of course, but it's at least proof Jerry has hired the right guy before. Not sure Jerry can be faulted for Parcells or McCarty either.

Dave Campo and Jason Garrett, on the other hand ...

maybe we’ll get another parcells when the new stadium needs to be promoted. And for the record I was an early believeR in Garrett. Campo I wasn’t paying toI much attention to the team at the time. I’m barely a fan anymore wearing my raggedy gear cuz I refuse to give Jerry any more $$$

I was a "hoper" in Garrett, but I wouldn't say a believer. I hoped he would do well because I liked the idea of a former player being the coach, and one who was connected with a great time for the team, but I also felt he didn't have much experience and would have to prove himself. Unfortunately that failed.

I'll give McCarthy some time. It's too early for definitive judgements.

Why would we want another Parcells? Did we win a SB during his tenure that I missed?

he was the last coach jones hired that was able to change the culture. McCarthy still might do it but if he’s like parcells or Johnson the burnout will settle in pretty quick.

how many punts did we have in the 1st half? The thing that changes is we stopped turning the ball over.
Understood but I mean is there a reason for that is what I'm asking? Maybe it isn't....but it seems like they got their gear in check at some point.

What clicked for the offense though in the 2nd half?

What clicked was they stopped turning the ball over. Same offense with same players. No fumbles makes a big difference. They still had to contend with Fat Mike's stupid fake punts and so-called game management.

If it wasn't... then what is the head coach just a point of contact to relay messages from other coaches? lol
You mean..

like McCarthy does with letting Moore call the plays?

Mike just listens.?

I have to believe Big Mike was responsible for some of those calls yesterday.

Good and bad.

No that is what I mean... head coach would be kinda useless if he didn't have any say in the decisions.
So those calls in critical situations have to be coming through Mike's headset, and he can veto those decisions.
So he is as much to blame as Moore, if he lets the bad calls in a situation go into play.

So I guess my question is.....why did they fumble 4 times to begin with?

A reason for it? nah, O think sometimes stuff just happens. It wasnt lack of focus or intensity, the defense just smacked the ball and out it came. Nobody to blame IMO. Ive seen players completely cradle the ball with both hands and still have a defender just hit it perfectly...... sometimes there is just nothing you can do.

I don't think much changed. They just stopped shooting themselves in the foot. They seemed to be able to move the ball, turnovers just killed the drives.

What he said to the press was he told the team to not worry..

to just play the best they had been shown or something to that effect. That they had a big opportunity ahead.

You can play it back yourself.

Obviously what he said made the team relax and go compete being heavily behind at the half.

Maybe he knows what he is doing and they are listening?

Good sign.

Then why are we still sucking in the first half on both sides of the ball?? Two halves = one full game. They better figure that **** out.

Here's his speech......" As you players can see, we coaches don't know jack about football, no siree, and have made the worst ever calls this game. we have coached you wrongly, bad wrong. So, go out in the second half and do exactly the opposite of anything you hear us say, just ignore us for good measure, and whatever you do, forget everything we have ever said, or showed you involving football! Now, go out there and win this game, and we will give you the weed we have left over, that we didn't smoke before this game started. I think Nolen is smoking crack. Stay away from him. I only wish I was half of the coach Garrett was, and he's only half of an NFL coach himself! Good luck. "

Here is where it gets blurry.

Is it Mike calling all these gambled calls or is it Moore or who?

Maybe different people at different times are making these choices.

I am not clear on it at all.

McCarthy admitted he made a mistake gambling on that 2nd special teams 4 and 5 play.

Don't think these coaches tell everything exactly as it is during a post game interview.

For all you know he told told the player "look these guys were up 25 points in the Superbowl a few years ago and coughed up the championship".

They're not going to say exactly what is said or what the concepts are in their locker room communications.

The defense were in real bad field position for the majority of the 1st half and instead of giving up TD's they gave up FG's so mentally they stayed in it.

The 2nd half we were basically unstoppable on offense and we didn't just throw the ball. We still ran the ball, sprinkled in some play action and definitely threw the ball out well. In the redzone we were better than I have seen us since God knows how long. Very high conversion rate.

Obviously we caught lightning in a bottle with that onside kick but this team came out focused and I honestly thought this was going to be the worst slaughtering I have ever seen this team absorb in about 30 years of watching this team.

So, all in all that's leadership from the players and coaches to keep chipping wood which contributed to this rare win.
