I think we match anything reasonable. If some team tries to "poison pill" us with a clause that Austin's entire contract is guaranteed if he plays 3 games in the state of Texas or some other crap like that, then we let him walk.

We aren't going to see any poison pill deals anymore. Goodell has been very proactive in tell teams to cut that crap out b/c you can easily write a contract that is both completely unrealistic and impossible to match -- e.g., Austin will receive 30 mill a year for any season that he plays more than 4 games in Dallas

Thank God the commish stopped that crap.

Wasnt it the Vikings that started all of those "posion pills" when they stole Steve Hutchinson away from Seattle???

I saw an interview Holmgreen did shortly after that incident and he was freaking pissed, veins were popping out of his forehead and he looked like he was fixing to kill somebody.

Of course we will. Romo seems to love the kid. I remember reading during the pre-seasons how Romo told someone to be ready for a wideout to break out and it later being Austin he was refuring to. Fracking injuries delayed the party though.

Tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys actually HOPE that someone does offer Austin a longer-term contract.

As we all know, JJ/Stephen like the market to set the price for players, and if they like Austin, they probably would be happy for the market to set the level, and then match it (if they want him).

One less contract negotiation they have to do . . . .

On the other hand, if it's a massive contract, they probably just take the pick.

Either way, they accomplish their goal.

We gave him a 2nd round tender. But he is still a Restricted Free Agent. If someone signs him to a deal, regardless of the money at this point, do you think it is a guarantee we will match it?

If someone signs him to a tender, it will probably have a poison pill. Jerry would have to pull a Jerry to keep him if that was the case.

As far as I know, poison pills are not ban, just discouraged. Secondly, they existed before the Hutchinson deal.

Like others have said if the deal is reasonable keep him if not I hope it's a team with a high 2nd rounder. :D

I just wish someone would offer a Proctor a deal. I'd let him go so quickly his head would spin. :laugh2:

If someone takes Proctor off our hands I vote we all pitch in and buy an expensive bottle of champagne and have it sent to that team's owner as a thank you.

I think it completely depends are whether or not he's offered to much. I think there will be a certain amount, and like Hos I believe it's lower than some might think, where Dallas would let him go and take the second rounder.

I wouldn't be shocked, in the least, if that were to happen.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say we match any offer up to $3-$3.5 Million a year. I realize that's a lot of dough for an unproven wideout but if the Tuna comes a knockin, don't bother answering....
