James Franklin, QB, Missouri
April 10:Mizzou QB working out for Cowboys
Missouri quarterback James Franklin said he is expecting to go unchosen in the NFL draft next month, and would consider it something of a bonus to be picked. But that doesn't mean he's not planning on making the most of a training-camp opportunity. And the Dallas Cowboys are making the most of a chance to evaluate him. Franklin told news-leader.com he has a workout scheduled for next week with the Cowboys.

I would not spend a draft choice on this player. He is a classic UDFA type IMO.

I love how picky some people are about 7th round picks. Like its not pretty much picking names out of a hat at that point.

Franklin is definitely a tough hard player and a dual threat QB. Wouldn't have a problem at all if he was picked in the 7th to stash on the practice squad for a year or 2. Not the greatest arm in the world but it's not bad either.

Every draft choice should be maximized.

If you treat it like you might as well just throw darts blindfolded, then people have no excuse to ever whine about the team not having adequate depth.

You're overvaluing what a 7th round pick actually is. How many guys each year drafted after the 5th do you think amount to anything?

No, but the amount of UDFAs that do amount to something is why you would value each pick.

If you just take a losing attitude that those choices are just throw aways and give little thought to who is chosen, then do not be surprised when you are depth poor.

Simple question, do you like Holloman? Did you like Ratliff, Patrick Crayton, Leon Lett?

I know. I get it, you find a diamond in the rough every so often. I just find it funny that people pretend to know what a good 7th round pick actually is. In reality no one has a clue until after it actually happens. Franklin is no worse a pick than any other QB that's going to be drafted after the 5th. It's all just a crapshoot.
