My fear for Dak remains:
3rd and 27 in Seattle in 2014, Romo buys time with his feet, makes defenders miss, throws a strike downfield to convert... idk if I believe Dak can consistently do that or if he could keep up in a shootout if the run game sputters. I just can't close my eyes and believe that Dak can win games with his arm if need be.

Yeah because it's such a high percentage play to convert 3rd and 27 on the road for any QB including Romo. Just because Romo did it that time does that mean he would do it every time? It's a very low percentage play for any QB that has ever played the game. If Romo had the chance to do that now most likely he would not convert, neither would Dak.

It's like saying I have fears Romo couldn't convert that hail mary that Joe Montana converted in 1991. Who cares? This has to be one of the worst streches I've seen on this board.

Agree..

But..

We've seen Dak convert 3rd and over 10 yards what seems like several times this year.

Exactly Dak CAN do it, doesn't mean he would every time, neither would Romo or anyone else. People are just running out of things to be "fearful" about Dak over that they're just getting silly.

Not a bad thing at all -- just not how our passing game works.

I wasn't directing that toward you as if you were saying it was a bad thing. I should have made that clear. I've just seen it so often as an argument against Dak. And I never considered it a bad thing to dink and dunk. It's a meticulous approach that tires defenses.

He's converted 26.3% on 3rd and >10, which you'd expect to come down a bit, but is one of the reasons the offense has been so good.

Career Conversion Rate, pass on 3rd and >10
Brees 27.3%
Rivers 27.0%
Rthbgr 25.2%
Ryan 23.0%
Romo 21.3%
Brady 19.5%
Rodgers 19.4%
Wilson 19.3%

Just fearful of the fact that the list of successful running/read option QB's in the NFL is a short one. I don't trust that Dak could sling it around the way Romo was asked to the majority of his career, the way Rodgers and Brees have to. My thought process is that teams are not always this good and I'm not ready to annoit Dak because next years team could be bad or an injury this year could hurt the team. I hope he gets that good.

Colin Kapernick was the hottest thing in the NFL the year they ran all the way to the super bowl and lost. When the 1st round talent the team had accumulated over the years started to leave, what happened to him? He fell off the face of the planet.

When Romo started in 2006, I didn't solidify my opinion until we almost got through the 2007 season.

No claim can be made on Dak yet. There's not enough there. This team is good but he falls in the Russell Wilson zone to me. I think Russell Wilson, while a top 10 QB, is inferior to Andrew Luck. Who's record looks better? Who's had the better teams? Luck forces turnovers because he is the only thing that gives his team a chance(ala Romo). Wilson doesn't have to make those plays typically because he has had a good defense and running game but when he HAD to throw against GB in the playoffs a couple of years ago, he had a 0 QB rating at the half. The team saved him and they won the game but it wasn't because of his arm. Give me the guy who carries the team, not the guy who lets them carry him. That guy gives me a chance even when injuries and adversity happen. Can you imagine Andrew Luck on the Seahawks?

I hope Dak goes the route of Big Ben. He started as a game manager and has morphed into a great thrower.
