“[McClay] and I put our heads together all the time—How are we gonna be better next year?” Jones said over the phone on Tuesday night. “The parts we did miss, why? And believe it or not, we’re saying, ‘How did it happen that happen that we took [Charles] Tapper ahead of Dak [Prescott]? Gotta be better than that. How do we learn from those situations, so we can be better in the future?”

Hmm this sounds familiar....

I said during the bye week waiting for the playoffs and you either know that or are being obtuse because you even argued against yourself in trying to argue with with me.

I was making a point that we had a great draft, we had a great season, we had a bye week and home field advantage through the playoffs and people...like you...were making threads complaining about stuff.

..so again...Spare me ...sound familiar?

Criticizing what the team did and playing wannabe GM/head coach like a lot of fans do, constantly waving that "I COULDA DONE A BETTER DRAFT/COACHED A BETTER GAME THAN THIS!" is what drives many posters here.

If that's what makes following the team 'fun' for them, I might not share their view but to each his own.

And this shows the complete BS about team windows. Teams don't have windows. Players do. You have a good draft class and/or FA period and suddenly your window is back open again.

To me if you have a good QB and a good O Line you have an open window. Everything else is negotiable.

I feel bad that there are posters who have read CZ for years and somehow come to the conclusion that criticizing the team is not allowed here.

Because it must be weird to read thousands and thousands of critical posts--about everything from our QB's history of injuries, our inept coaching staff, our organization's inability to draft, our defensive talent, our lack of takeaways, our drunken owner, his fat son, our inability to develop QBs, Sean Lee's fragility, Randy Gregory's addictions, our history of blowing 2nd round picks on risky selections, our t-shirts not being very clever, you name it---and not understand what any of the discussions are actually about.

As far as the draft class goes, how amazing would it be if Smith ends up being the pick of the litter? I agree with Steven, though, that it's too early to put a grade on it yet. And Dak's shown every indication that he's going to develop into a long-term star in this league, but he still has to do it, first.

Staubach 10th round 1964.

1964. The year I was born. Good suggestion on Staubach. I did not know he was a 10th round selection.

I don't know which would be the better draft choice based on draft position selected and results. Brady has Staubach beat in super bowls. I guess Brady and Staubach would be 1 and 2.

Staubach 10th round 1964.

Staubach was the 129th player drafted in the 1964 draft.

Brady was the 199th player drafted in the 2000 draft.

Nobody was surprised Staubach was good -- he won the Heisman and was highly touted. The reason he slid in the draft was his armed services commitment.

Brady is the ultimate shocker to me. I watched nearly every game when he was at begin and he was unbelievably average. There was absolutely nothing about his play at Michigan that foretold he would become the GOAT.

I sort of disagree. Nobody could have seen his Hall of Fame career coming. But a 64" pro style pocket passer, who was the most efficient passer in his conference his senior year, with his win % against good competition, should have gone higher. Some of the QBs who went ahead of him were straight-up TRASH that, even without hindsight, were really dumb picks compared to him.

The second day of the draft I posted that if Jaylon Smith is healthy, we got two of the top players in the draft. The first two replies were trolls posting "LOL". I was right, we haven't event seen Smith yet and we got starters like Collins and Brown on top of it.

As it turns out, it he's healthy next year it's POSSIBLE we got the top 3 players in the draft. Doubt that's ever happened before.

All we had to do was find a franchise QB in the 4th round.

What is amazing is that some years there are no franchise QBs available in the entire draft. We found ours in the 4th. That makes it all the sweeter.

In a redraft we would not get a shot at Dak at all. The home runs you get late in the draft put you way ahead of the curve unless you piss off your earlier picks in the draft.

Hype is what drives some of these guys up the draft board. Possibly the single biggest impediment to drafting well is pre evaluation hype/bias. It interferes with better judgment.

Especially regarding QB's...they are almost always overdrafted because of demand. Makes Prescott a real Godsend.

Now if we can follow up with another great draft class in 2017, oh boy...that would be something. I really hope we add a stud defensive end to compliment the emergence of David Irving, but with this defence coming on and looking much better than many thought, and younger we might have options, like maybe seriously looking at drafting the heir apparent to Jason Witten, maybe a right tackle...

And a burner Wide Reciever. But Defense first!
