If you have the opportunity to go back and watch his run blocking and compare it to Kosiers.

When he got his hands on people they moved.

Im a Kosier fan and I even liked him when 95% of this board wanted him gone but Holland is just a more physically gifted player and last year it translated onto the field in the short time he was out there.

Also I think Kosier would give us a lot as a back up considering his versatility to play every position but center.

Kosier's a much better player than Montrae Holland. Better in both run blocking and pass blocking. Holland played well when he eventually got in the lineup--a lot better than I expected him to play considering how long it took him to get in there--he gets good push on running plays, but he can't get to the second level like Kosier does. You may be seeing people moving backwards, but you don't have to shovel your guy to have him be blocked. Kosier's much more consistent in getting to his guy and taking care of his responsibility. He's got very good footwork and better technique. He also helps with the line calls, which has been widely talked about.

I'm all for his position being open to competition, because I think every position with an adequate backup should be open for a challenge, but there's no doubt the Kosier's one of our 5 best OL if he comes all the way back from his foot injury.

I'd open up the job for certain.

But if that's the case, I believe Kosier would win anyways as long as he is fully recovered and doesn't break his foot again. And probably without a bunch of effort.

As for Holland, I think far too much is being made of his play last year. He did a credible job (i.e. he wasn't as bad as Proctor), but where people are getting he's going to simply step in and relegate Kosier to the bench is really odd. He was a barely above average player in New Orleans and Denver who tended to eat himself out of jobs. He'll have to do more than simply look better than Proctor for me to think he's going to play above the level he's established his whole career. The main thing to his benefit is that he's a Houck-type. But Kosier is much more technically sound and I'll take that every day of the week.

Holland didnt fit in Denver's zone blocking scheme which is why they let him go. We dont have a zone blocking scheme here. People are confusing the fact that Proctor got man-handled and then coming to the conclusion that the line wasnt the same without Kosier. Holland did a better job on run blocking and since they will probably be more of a focus on the run game, he seems the better fit.

Kosier gets man-handled at times too.

Kosier doesn't get man-handled. He's been consistently grading out as one of our better OL, but people don't want to realize it.

Holland wasn't playing in a zone blocking scheme when he ate himself out of the Saints, either. He's a journey-man and an ok player. I think Brewster has a better shot of winning the LG job eventually, but not this year.

Whether he ate himself out of New Orleans is not the issue. That happened years ago anyway. Apparently, he has been keeping his weight under control.

The issue is who should be the starter at left guard. If we are running more next year, then Holland should be the guy. And Kosier does get man-handled.

He's not big enough and the reports I've seen say he will play guard...

Not big enough? He had a weight problem coming into college.. I'm sure that's not the reason.

I am not too sure Holland will overtake Kosier, but it will make for excellent TC competition. If he does beat Kosier out than he really worked for it and deserve it. The winner would be the Cowboys. Two pretty solid linemen.

Exactly and for the team there is no loser. I hope to see both men put up a strong fight and make their own case of becoming or remaining the starter. I can't say I'm pulling for one more than the other I want to see both do well because that is what will benefit the team

Kosier needs to get some reps at center, especially if all the rumors of him making the line calls are true. If he can play all the OL positions the better value he becomes for the team. He could be Unger-lite.
