Moore: Carolina letting Hardy go should tell Cowboys that talent shouldn't always be deciding factor

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...ell-cowboys-talent-always-deciding-factor?f=r

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Those who deal in moral absolutes will insist Carolina's Super Bowl trip is, in part, a just reward.

Those who believe you reap what you sow will point to the Cowboys absence and 4-12 struggles.

The Panthers let Greg Hardy walk and win 17 of 18 games on their way to Super Bowl 50. The Cowboys take on the defensive end's legal troubles and NFL suspension and fall apart. Can there be a more striking example of what happens when a club elevates the need to take a socially responsible stand over talent?

Sweeping proclamations of this sort conveniently neglect the importance of other factors in the final outcome for the two teams. But as the Cowboys discuss whether or not to sign Hardy this off-season - there are strong indications he won't be back - the fear of losing a talented player on defense shouldn't be among the conversation points.

Carolina has proven you can come out the other end just fine...

Chemistry should be considered. I'd like to know how exactly he's affected the team chemistry. I'd like to hear some player opinions even if they're anonymous. Actually, preferably.

I'm leaning toward keeping him. One year removed from the suspension. One season under Rods system. Still young w no injuries. Just dumb enough to keep his market value low.
Keep him on another incentive deal.

Can there be a more striking example of what happens when a idiot media member conveniently forgets the fact our two best players missed the season? Good grief what a horrible article.

Here's part of an article available now in the newsfeed zone:

As the Cowboys dealt with tension in the locker room over Greg Hardy, his former teammates continued to have love for the embattled defensive end.

Before the Cowboys played the Panthers on Thanksgiving, some Carolina defensive players spoke in favor of Hardy. Now, as Carolina gets ready to play in the Super Bowl, the Panthers are speaking in favor of Hardy.

"That was an upstairs decision that we didn't have any control over," Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson told the New York Post on Wednesday. "We've still got Greg in our hearts, because he's a brother of our [defensive] line."

Johnson, one of Hardy's best friends, defended Hardy back in October after Hardy earned negative headlines for comments about Brady's wife.

On Wednesday, Johnson told the New York Post that it seemed like Hardy had been "with us [in spirit this season.]"

"He always going to be a brother and always be a friend of ours,"Johnson said.

Anyone who feels like this sounds like an unwelcome, locker room malcontent, please chime in.

I think that if anyone needs to be questioned, it's the self-serving, 0 sacks "Mr. Mince" who has in fact bounced around the league due to attitude problems. He's been the source of any and all negative quotes or implications about Hardy, essentially giving a 'him or me' sales job.

I know what I'd do.

correlation does not equal causation. carolina would've still been a great team this year with Greg there. this is stupid, and simply click bait.

Carolina only let him go after the league did something about him. please. they still wanted him.

I wouldn't take Johnson's word either, he's his best friend. What else is he going to say?

I've had friends I'd defend too but truth be told, they could be total annoying *******s.

Honestly, I have no idea what's going on with Hardy but I'll say it was quite telling that early in his tenure here, any time something came out in the press negatively about Hardy, the Cowboys quickly tried to squash it. Like the time the press reported Hardy was late for a practice.......... Cowboys immediately released a statement saying it was an excused absence. They couldnt' wait to refute the report. Then when it was reported later in the year that Hardy had missed a meeting (or meetings), the Cowboys didn't deny it all.

I suspect Hardy isn't terrible but I suspect he's probably a bit of maintenance for the front office. How much will likely be known if the Cowboys attempt or don't attempt to sign him.

I wouldn't deny that he was late to meetings. There's a long history of that having happened. What I take issue with is that he's a bad locker room guy or teammate.

Other than the politicking Jeremy Mincey, all I ever see are former and current teammates defending him.

Bogus article; there are so many bad character guys who reach great heights in the NFL. I have no doubt that the Panthers are still in the SB if they resigned Hardy. I also have no doubt that the Cowboys would've won more games if we had better QB play regardless of Hardy's presence.

In the end it's semantics because he's clearly a guy the Cowboys are thinking long and hard about whether or not he's worth bringing back. Who cares what Mincey says? He's not making the decision on whether to keep him or not.

The reality is the truth on Hardy lies somewhere in the middle between he's an awesome teammate and he's a total headache not worth bringing back at any cost.

I would hope any deal with Hardy will have clauses to hold him accountable. I think this off season is important to find out who is looking to go all out and win and who is in this for themselves. 4-12 should not be tolerate of laziness and players being late.

Is this article under short stories? Because it sure reads like fiction...
What else is Keuchly going to say about the guy who signs his checks? And the Panthers owner made Hardy the sacrificial lamb to save face in front of his charity.

Article is just an article by a person writing on a Cowboy site...like the rest of us, trying to make some sense, that's all.

Fans and the public do. Many fans around here want to get rid of him, opening up yet another hole that this team doesn't need. And some want to compound that error by turning around and using the #4 overall pick on Joey Bosa.

The reality is the truth on Hardy lies somewhere in the middle between he's an awesome teammate and he's a total headache not worth bringing back at any cost.

Totally agree. And if the worst thing he's doing is being late for a few meetings, I can live with the trade-off in on-field contributions. It's certainly more appealing than creating a need for pass rush.

The media has been clamoring for his release and harping on his non conviction as the banter for which
Dallas should just cut all ties with him, I mean he's 1 bad dude according to "them" yet let us not forget
that the real reason they are harping on his initial release? simply put they know Hardy is good and if
they could somehow talk Dallas into making a foolish decision, well that would just tip the feather in
their cap now wouldn't it?

it's not bad enough that Dallas doesn't have anyone currently better than Hardy and Lee on defense
but now they want to get rid of Hardy and watch the defense..become even more pitiful and useless
rather than get better!!! and that is what this is really all about, not wanting Dallas to improve let's
drum up ways we can foolishly talk them into getting worse so we don't have to cover them through
the national spotlight. Hey if they aren't winning titles any more than our job is finished with them and
we as the "media" can find new people and teams to hype

Well I say keep Hardy he's not been here that long keep in mind he literally missed an entire month
of the season due to a bogus suspension from hypocrite Goodell, so we can't really expect him to be
part of the system if the man doesn't really know if last year he would be playing football at all?? but
is then informed he is he's been released/traded but he can't practice with the team because he's been
suspended

so when I want the advice of the galactically stupid media I'll give it to them just keep plugging along
Hardy will be just fine

I certainly hope so too. With incentives rather than guaranteed money to keep him in line. Very similar to the arrangement they had this year.

I don't dispute that the guy was likely late quite a few times, that seems to be his pattern going back to college. And if the Cowboys truly did their homework, and I'm sure they did, they'd know that. As far as effort level and being lazy, I've never heard that associated with Hardy.

Just my view being late is not an excuse, this is a 4-12 team if there was a time for urgency this is it. I think this team needs to know that who is about winning and putting in the time and effort and who is out there doing their own thing. I think when you are competing for championship you can afford to cut some slack here and there but when you finish one of the worst in the league there is no room for slack.

The media has been an eye sore in Cowboys affairs for a very, very long time now. Cowlishaw has made a living by trying to stir the pot established by ESPN and FOX for the past decade. To them, it's all a matter of blame and fame...

Hardy is still young enough to get back to very top form. If he takes this off season to heart, he should line up and be worried about.
