I must have missed those other offers.

While I'm glad Hanna is back, I think they overpaid given how little he's used. I still don't see how McClain's 2015 made him worthy of a raise. I think the only reasonable bargain they got was on Claiborne.

Not worth derailing the thread for me. The guys we signed are the types of role players teams need. They had their visits to other teams and decided to stay. That's a good thing in my book.

They do. This is a league built on dime-a-dozen players. Young DLs who can play four spots along the line and get pressure are normally in demand.

I'm not saying Jack Crawford is special, or that he's better than he really is. I'm realistic about him. But he was the free agent on our team I thought was maybe most likely to go somewhere on a deal we would have thought excessive in that first week of FA, and so far, we haven't heard of any interest in him from anybody.

Well then the fact Crawford has not real options other than us re-signing him because we appear to be panicked at how defensive end is going for us thus far, that should tell you all you need to know about Jack Crawford.

I've always thought Jack was a must regardless of the snubs. He's a really good player.

I'll say it again.

Mario Williams would sure make DE look a lot better than it does right now on a deal like Miami signed him to that gave them the ability to dump him with little to no pain after the year.

The Cowboys have botched defensive end this offseason unless the plan all along was to act like Hardy was a non-option only to then swoop in at the last minute and sign him for a really cheap deal.

Remember the day when if we wanted a FA he was here. Not so much because of the money, but everybody wants to play on a winner, well.......

I think this is where we're headed. These players talk, text, tweet...etc. If the $$ is even, who really wants to play for this coach/FO/team over any other team? They see/hear about the strings, the double talk and the desperation with guys like Randle, Hardy. 4 game suspensions is becoming a norm here. Patching up a battered QB to last "5 years" is an outside joke.
This team needs to start churning for young talent who hopefully develop into leaders. I love Romo and Witten but we need new faces in the organization to change our culture and mediocre mentality. We better make a hell of an impact in the draft because if we have the same basic starters/coaches as last year, we'll be the last team anyone wants to play for in the future.
If you want to put this on the rant zone, I get it.

I do not have a problem bringing back Crawford. But he now has leverage. Not great.

Agreed...I think Crawford and to a degree even the no longer wanted Hardy, have leverage due to desperate need for this team at DE.

Wait....

I thought it's been 20 yrs of mediocrity.

When did free agency start?

It seems to me that the Cowboys are waiting Hardy out and threatening to replace him in FA to bring his price down.

Not only have they botched Defensive End, they have also botched the backup QB position.

I was a fan of signing back our own guys. And adding Thornton was a low key good signing. But at this point the team looks like they weren't real prepared for free agency. As crazy as that sounds.

Why wait until the 15th to have a meeting with Chris Long? He was released prior to free agency. They had over 2 weeks to schedule a meeting with him. Lost out on Adrian Clayborn and never had a chance with Olivier Vernon or Mario Williams.

What about back up QB. We lost 12 games last year and a handful of those games were lost due to poor QB play. Have they not learned their lesson from last year? You have to have a decent backup in the NFL, especially when your 35 yr old QB has injury problems. Weeden. Cassell. Moore. That was horrible. When free agency started we couldn't even get Matt Moore to sign with us? Chase Daniel got decent money from Philly but Colt McCoy at 3 years and 9 Million would have looked good here.

lol, gotta love hyperbole. (we are in trouble because we didn't get a crap DE) Not to mention Chris Long is a below average player. The up years he had probably had HGH or steroids. He shouldn't have any problem keeping a fresh supply in New England though. Or in Seattle if he had gone there. He would have been a crap player for Dallas.

Unfortunately, this is the problem that a team faces when they place faith in unreliable players like Randy Gregory and Greg Hardy. It's not like it wasn't known that Gregory has a serious issue with drug abuse and/or stupidity, and that Hardy is a guy who pushes the envelope when it comes to showing up on time, in addition to the alleged disrespect shown to staff. Couple that with a situation that couldn't have been foreseen in DeMarcus Lawrence's back surgery, and you have the situation that the Cowboys are in now.

Whatever they planned this offseason, it doesn't look like they really gauged the market correctly, and that they are really going to have to mine some seriously flawed options to provide a two-deep. Not a good situation, but it shows that rolling the dice on question marks like Gregory and Hardy is not all its cracked up to be.

At this point that crap player is better than what we have. Nothing.

He was needed for depth and stability. He don't him to get 15 sacks and be an all-pro. He's still serviceable, and I doubt the Patriots would sign him if he was crap.

Well in fairness, they had no options last year when they signed Hardy. So its not like they passed up on another stud pass rusher to sign Hardy.

They knew they had an issue at pass rush last offseason. They tried to fix it with Hardy and it didn't work.

That is the entire source of frustration. Yet people deflect citing how awful Long was.

So what was our plan once we realized Gregory was done for a quarter of the season?

OK. But what they got paid isn't "role player" money. That's what it's not as good a thing for me. Looks like we disagree.
