That's where they get to compound their mistakes. They'll overdraft Bosa at #4 in a panic and then try to tell everyone that they've fixed the problem. And then everyone gets to watch the rookie put up 6 sacks for the year.

If Bosa puts up 6 sacks for the year that would be an accomplishment. Just don't think he's anything near as good as we wish he was.

Strange that Sir Jones now settles for journeymen and 6-10 seasons. Super Bowl visions seem further and further away, mates.

I'm all for it. Hardy did not hurt Dallas last season.
yes who needs to respect coaches and be on time for meetings. And court Sagas and covering others' wives are no big deals.
Anything for a 7-9 instead of a 6-10 season.

Plenty think he's not a double-digit sack guy. And if he's not, he not worth using the #4 overall pick to acquire.

"Serious bind?" Really? The panic is pretty hilarious. I expect it from fans, but the media on this is amusing. Chris Long was a must sign? A 31-year-old DE with 4 sacks the past two years?? They didn't "whiff" on him. He's a $2 million player whom them had mild interest in. I thought they had too much interest myself.

Look, Dallas is staring right at a DE at No. 4. And they'll sign someone soon, hopefully Crawford. Maybe Mince. And they're fine. If they can stop laughing long enough at these silly stories.

Jason Garrett will not compromise his principles for a few more victories in a particular season. He would lose all credibility.

Hardy will not be a Cowboy.

In the meantime, since 2009, 14 defensive ends have recorded at least 8 sacks in their rookie season including a 4th round pick, a 5th rounder and 2 7th round picks.

Thats why I say you never know. They could very well end up with Ezekiel Elliot in the 1st, QB Connor Cook in the 2nd and a couple of Diamond DE's in the latter rounds. Heck, they might just end up with one of the best drafts in their history.

Throughout that history, there have been DE's drafted in the 3rd, 7th, even 16th rounds who have been perenial starters, guys like Harvey Martin and Leon Lett.

Somrounds it seems as though there is only one round in a draft when I read about what the Cowboys should do.

They should draft well.

This is how I see it. The Cowboys have an opportunity to pick a player in every round who can dramatically improve the 2016 team. Forget about past failures and current needs and target players in each round who improve the overall talent of the roster.

Is it fanciful thinking they will pick the right players and coach them up? Absolutely, but it's the only opportunity/possibility that is realistic if this team is to improve.

Agreed. However, the fact remains that all the talent in this year's draft is at D-Tackle. It is a poor draft for D-Ends. That's just the luck of the draw. Mincey, Crawford aren't improvements as they contributed to a feeble pass rush on a 4-12 team. Add in our new thrifty approach to free agency, and frustration at how big a backwards step the team took last season after finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, and fans have a right to be concerned.

No point in jumping off the cliff in the middle of March. It is far too early to panic. But, if things do go badly again next season, Jerry and Stephen have some massive changes to make. After last year, they must have very little confidence in Garrett. If they fail to upgrade the back-up QB and running back and pass rush, then not only should the staff be terminated, but the Cowboys fan base has to start organizing some sort of protest aimed at Jerry and Stephen. It is unforgiveable for the richest team in sports and all the resources that goes with it to be this inept for this long. It isn't like we share a division with the Patriots. All the organizations in our division have made questionable decisions in the recent past. There are no excuses for not winning this division. None.

Hopefully a healthier season, and some quiet additions like Thornton, add up to be greater than the sum of its parts.

This might be true, though I recall JJ Watt having similar negatives said about him in his scouting reports,,,

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/120582724.html

Still, almost 25% of personnel people answered affirmatively this month when asked a simple yes or no question: Is there any chance J.J. Watt could be a bust?

For the record, the breakdown was six yes, 20 no.

"He could," an NFC personnel man said. "He really doesn't corner well enough to be an end in a 4-3 and I wish he was a little bit squarer player to play 5-technique (end in a 3-4). He doesn't line up and two-gap people. He reminds me a little bit of the Nebraska kid that St. Louis took. Kind of angular like that. It's really hard to fit (Watt)."

This pick at 4 is very scary, just for the fact there is not one sure fire, no questions asked, prospect. Maybe Tunsil, but there are questions about Bosa's speed, questions about where to play Ramsey, questions about if Wentz, or Goff are franchise QBs,worthy of the 4th overall pick. Shouldn't picking 4th overall almost guarantee a perennial pro bowler, 10 years, or longer in the league player?

I wish i could be optimistic about the chances of acquiring 4 starters. But i fear that things will go off the rails after the early 2nd round pick.

Every time Dallas played the Rams, Chris Long was nowhere to be found.

He's not the key to anything.

Yeah because we sure know how to fill needs in the draft...

We do an ok job in the draft. By and large, this team is finding players, and we're re-signing our own as opposed to spending big money on somebody else's. Nothing inherently wrong with that.

I think some of you guys need to look more closely at how all NFL teams do with their draft picks 4 and 5 years down the road. It's hit and miss for everybody.
