What's that old saying, a player can play hurt, but it's stupid to play injured. However in TC I can see taking it a bit on the cautious side too. With all string of nagging injuries in the past, I'm ok if a player takes a day or two off to rest some soreness.
If it was the regular season, I bet they would be in the game.

Listen....I have played sports. Obviously not at the professional level...but I have played. Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys have ever done anything else other than type! I can tell you, the for the most part....players WANT to play. Guys WANT to be out there. Dragging one leg around through a training camp practice to PROVE to fans or the coaches how bad they want it proves NOTHING. So to hear some of you tell it...you want the guy that is dressed and out there...regardless of how terrible he looks, because him being out there proves how bad he wants it. Football is a brutal sport and a long season. Groins, hamstrings, calfs.....these strains can and will turn into complete tears if they are not rested and rehabilitated properly. If you tear it in an actual game that counts....you and the fans have to live with that. Part of the game. But to tear something that that you KNOW is not right....in a meaningless training camp session...that does not show how commited or tough you are...it shows an inability to grasp the totality of the big picture. And once you are on the sidelines on crutches...fans will just move on to the next guy...and coaches will yell "next man up".

Rolando McClain has been playing football his whole life. And playing at a high enough level to be a top 10 pick in the NFL. I don't know what he will or will not be for the Dallas Cowboys. But I would like to find out...and getting him through the preseason HEALTHY is the only way to find out. It's not like we have a cupboard full of capable replacements. So chill everyone and let's see what the man can do when his body tells him he can go.
'nuff said.

Oddly enough, I'm willing to give him the the opportunity to prove himself in spite of his history. Mo "Liz" Claiborne…not so much.

I hear what you're saying BB and for the most part I don't think people mean to be as callous as they sound. It's just their frustrations showing thru. Player after player after player comes in here, either drafted or via free agency, and they seem to all get injured. It just seems we are so snake bit with injuries it's ridiculous. And some guys just seem to be injured all .. the .. time! Hang in there and don't let it get to you too much.

So he's not going to play in the one series the defense will probably play.

Not the point. Thru three years he has played in a total of two preseason games. That's one more than Matt Johnson for those scoring at home. Yes it's preseason but the lack of prep is one one things killing his progress

Only 2 games? I'm sure he'll just flip a switch or something.

Bogus. The goal shouldn't be to get McClain through the pre-season "healthy" so we can see what we have in him. If you've played sports, then you know guys are out there busting their *** for a roster spot. They have to earn it. If you let McClain go through camp with minimal practice time and cut other guys that came into camp in shape and worked hard, it sends the wrong message. I want McClain to stick but I want him to earn it.

so you want him out there running around on a partially torn hamstring.....with the hopes he does not make it worse. That is earning it?

And for the record....I don't know the severity of his injury...the point I was trying to make is this....players do not want to be hurt...players want to play.....players want to play at a high level. If an injury is preventing him from doing his job.....then either let him get healthy....or cut him!

There are 16 weeks in a season. There are no back to backs...or 4 games in 5 nights...like there is in the NBA, MLB etc....the body can only take so much. A training camp setting where you are playing football everyday is very taxing on the body. Gutting out a few extra days in training camp...and potentially making an injury worse does not prove to me that you are a much harder worker....or want it more. It is simple for me....do you make plays? If the best thing you can say about a player is that he shows up every day....does not do much when he is out there..but hey...he is out there. That does not describe a "football playing dude" Let's let this play out a little more before we decide this guy's "heart is not in it"
