Yeah, I think he has already made history - as one of the worst draft decisions Jerry has ever made. That's saying something.

Dramatic much?

Maybe we should wait till he plays more than 2 seasons before making such declarations, no?

No, not really. He hasn't shown any signs of being good. I would give him the benefit of the doubt if he had done anything decent up to this point. We used the 6th pick of the draft on Alan Ball 2.0

He doesn't need to make history, he just needs to play like a legitimate corner.
Exactly. Why he felt the need to throw in the statement about "making history" I have no idea. I guess he means making a historical event in his career by actually making it through a full season playing in each game and being productive.

But, Henderson made a great point. With what was given up for him and where he was chosen, he should be a starter.

I do not think he has the mentality to walk up to Scandrick and take his job back.

He really does seem like a soft guy. I was really excited about that pick, but I don't think he fits this scheme, nor do I think he can stay healthy. Just jarring how this hasn't worked out.

At this point I see Claiborne as one of those guys that's just going to receive a lot of hate from the fans regardless of pretty much whatever he does. When you combine his very unsensational first 2 seasons with the trade up to take him at #6 overall, it's just too easy for the Jerry haters to point their pitchforks at Claiborne and do their thing.

Even if Mo has a very very good 2014 season by normal standards, he'll still get dumped on around these parts.

If he can walk back in and take his starting job back, then the "hate" should go away.

If he cannot, every last bit of it is well deserved. It is absolutely not too much to expect a first round CB chosen in the top ten be a solid legitimate starter.

I guess it is just what the cool real fans do, defend the underachievers who get all the "hate".

I liked Claiborne coming out the draft, and I don't think he's near as bad as people have made him out to be, but ... He's scaring me with that "making history" comment, I hope it's not for the same reasons as last year. Our defense sure was "making history", just for the wrong reasons.

The scheme fit thing is massively overplayed by people who want to make excuses for him. We are not playing soft zone exclusively. And to be honest, wouldn't the "next Deion" be able to play man and zone? He should be better in press bail coverage, sure. But if the scheme is that much of a liability, he was severely misjudged by our scouts/coaches.

I don't think he was ever called the next Deion. I think they said he was the highest rated corner since Deion. And even then I believe that was hyperbole in writing.

I think he is predominantly a man corner, who was supposed to be a shutdown guy like Nnamdi and Revis... I don't think he was ever that for us. I think the scheme change has made it difficult, because he doesn't excel in zone coverage, which I think forced us to play more man than we would have otherwise planned to play. I don't think he has the proper makeup to fill the demands of a corner in a tampa system. He isn't overly physical, nor is he a great tackler. He is a finesse guy more than anything. A soft finesse corner... uniquely unqualified to play in a tampa system.

agree. people forget bout bw webb too quickly

Webb was a fourth round player from a small school who played as a fourth CB in his rookie season most of the time.

So it makes more sense to direct scorn to that player than another that was a top ten pick who also cost a premium choice to acquire and has barely contributed in two years?

I guess it makes people feel better to rant about the underachieving bottom of the roster than to hold players that should by all reasonable expectations be performing at a decent level.

Right, the highest graded prospect at the position since Deion. That includes a lot of good quality cornerbacks since.

Direct from the leadership of this organization:

“Deion was special with his burst, but certainly, he is the best they have graded for us since Deion,” Jones said Thursday night after the Cowboys selected the LSU cornerback. “That would have included Deion after he came in here.”

I think he is predominantly a man corner, who was supposed to be a shutdown guy like Nnamdi and Revis... I don't think he was ever that for us. And all of those qualities show that our evaluation of him coming out was a massive miss. I also have a hard time thinking of many "finesse" corners who excel in man coverage either. If you cannot be physical and have the right mentality, you will fail in this league. Scandrick does not possess nearly the physical gifts that Claiborne has but his mental framework is what makes him a better player.[/quote]
