I never liked the bloated Tuna before he was here. Did not like his old tired act when he was here. Not liking it even more now that he is gone.

You hate Tuna - gotcha

You enjoyed the 5-11 seasons that we were having before the Tuna's arrival?

Are you enjoying this 14-2 season. Connect the dots on the transformation.....

I think you're just assuming, for no apparent reason, that what Jerry said he would allow is a rule. But if that's the rule, there's no reason for Jerry to say he would allow it. If it's a #1 personnel guy (without final say) or just a regional scout, it a team wants to hire him as a final say position, they most likely can regardless of whether it's before the draft or not.

Jerry's exact words were he was not worried about losing Ireland because personnel guys cannot leave until after the draft. Why would he say that if it is not a league rule? He said he would not stand in his way after the draft it he had the chance to move up. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Jerry has been paying Ireland since last April to scout college players and put together our draft board. How can the league allow another team to come in and hire him before the draft and take all that knowledge with him without compensation to the Cowboys? The league just cannnot allow that. They can interview him but if they want him now, Jerry will have to give that permission and should demand compensation. Ireland leaving before the draft will hurt the Cowboys on draft day. I do not think Jerry will just sit back and allow that.

If I'm not going to allow someone to leave, then it's perfectly reasonable to say they cannot leave until I let them. Regardless, that's not even a direct quote of what he said.

Do you have some sort of reference for this rule other than just a vague inference from what Jerry said? Like I've said, I've never seen this reported before.

theogt - I believe JJ is talking about a lateral move he is free to go after draft. Later he also said if it was a GM role he'd support Ireland on promotion. Press reported first quote and kinda let second half of quote go.

I don't think that's a reasonable reading of the what was reported at all.

It's weird to me that some of our fans almost seem to be rooting for us to lose Ireland... And all just because you-know-who is involved.

Anyway... Sham contracts are nothing new, but usually courts or arbitrators can see through them. You'd like to think that Goodell could and would do that if it were the case, but I don't feel very good about any decision he'd make.

:D Jones ought to do the same thing the Tuna is. Offer Ireland the "GM" position. I mean two can play at that.

Our front office (and coaching staff) is officially under assault by other teams in the league. I posted earlier this season we would need a Houdini act by Jones to keep our staff together. It wasn't hard to predict and I hope Jerry has a plan. He needs one.

I agree, I "hope" Jones has a plan in place, we'll need one.

I agree... but they could say it's not any different from an owner hiring a GM and giving him final say over all football decisions.

The owner could have hired Parcells and given him full power to hire who he wants as a GM and make sure that guy does his job... which is making all football decisions.

It's trickery, basically... but it could work.

Except that it couldn't, because he'd still have final say over personnel. It is "different from an owner hiring a GM" because it's an employee of the owner with final say and not the owner.

Like I said, I agree.

That is the only angle that I can think of that they could take to say Parcells doesn't have final say.

IOW... if they don't try that, then I don't think they can say Parcells doesn't have final say, at all.

Mort said that Miami will ask permission to speak to Jason Garrett this week in regards tot he HC position. He did also mention that they will ask to speak to 4 or 5 other coaches in the league.

Mort also stated that they want to speak to Ireland is regards to the GM position. He said that Jones will definitely want Ireland throughout the draft but that Miami will counter that this is a move up to a GM position. He didn't mention any other GM candidates.

This totally stinks, worst news I've heard all week. I guess Bill helped build the Cowboys up, now he'll try to help screw them up! I think Ireland is gone, just a matter of time with him and I don't see how we keep Garrett unless he really just wants to stay here and wait to be the HC of the Cowboys, which I hope he does but I just don't see him passing up too many opportunities.:(

Parcells is from Jersey -

He'll give Ireland a wink wink and GM and title. And then strike a deal that BB and Pioli have. If either disagree on a player they walk away from him.

Parcells is 66 and is more involved as an advisor and overseer of football operations. Brilliant hire candidly for Dolphins.

What does being from Jersey have to do with it? Are people from Jersey big liars or something?

No, they just are smarter than everyone else.

Well, they and New Englanders.

And notice how even Nors now admits this would be a sham deal.
