The truth > Mort most of the time.

Please people lets try try to stay in touch with reality.

Alexander is right - it's going to be long three months.

This is the first in a long-series of reports about how Coach Parcells will want to move the choice. And I would assume we will be linked to most, if not all, of them. I guess some will welcome the spice to the normally dull offseason, but I am already very very tired of hearing the name Darren McFadden. This has been going on for nearly a year.

The trade with Cleveland kicked off all the McFadden talk. Since then there have been more posts about him than any other undrafted player that I can remember in the history of the CZ. I, for one, will be glad when the first few picks are taken and the Cowboys won't be associated with him any more. Until then, the reports will continue. And we will linked to most of them. Yippee.

As much as i like MBIII, i would trade him and a #1 for the first pick.

McFadden is a difference maker. Barber is not.

do it Jerry if you can

How can you have watched the last two seasons and come away saying Barber is not a difference maker????

Mort is a joke. The first pick is going to asking for around 30 million in guranteed money. From all the reports I heard from the senior bowl no one is considering moving up to the number 1 slot. No franchise Qb to be had and you don't move up for a Rb. Forget it Mort you buddy the fat tuna is going to have to earn this one, he will not be given a free meal ticket. No way does jerry do buisness with that snake.

If we tender MB3 at the first rounder then he can choose his team. If we tender him 1st and 3rd he can choose his team. No discussions needed. We can't make him sign an offer sheet.

It is up to MB3 at that point.

No, it is up to the team to make an offer sheet as well. The Patriots had an elaborate one drawn up with poison pills for Welker but elected not to exercise it. It takes two sides to make it work.

A restricted free agent is named that for a reason. He's going to be restricted to negotiating with the teams that have the choices necessary to compensate the original team.

He could easily sign with the Pats and we'd get end of the round picks.

Why would the Patriots sign him?

We will resign MB3 to a long term deal and keep our best RB. No other scenario makes any sense at all.

Jerry Jones is an impulsive and sometimes irrational decision maker when he decides he really wants something. Nothing will stop him if his mind is made up. See Garrett, Jason.

I don't sense any profound feelings of loyalty to Marion Barber. If he did, then he would probably already be extended by now.

Remember, Jones didn't even want Barber but instead wanted Canty in that draft, but relented.

We will tender him at 1st and 3rd rounders at least. If he signs an offer sheet with the Dolphins at that point we may be happy coming away with merely the first overall pick but Jerry would be silly to spend over 30 mil guaranteed on any player especially a RB. Jerry would then deserve to be insulted as crazy GM again.

I am positive we tender him at the 1 and 3 and I don't believe he gets an extension.

It is smart business. When fans around here were screaming for Romo to be signed before the year, it was clear to me Jones would wait. And he did. He is fairly predictable in how he handles some things if you pay attention to his behavior. If he's serious about McFadden, then he wouldn't remove a potential chip from his pile.

What happens after the tender is up to Jones. But just because he is tendered doesn't mean it just plays out into signing an offer sheet with Miami or whomever. I know Miami wouldn't just give up the top choice in the draft and the third which equates to almost a second. I cannot think of many teams that would assign that kind of value to any running back. Michael Turner is a good example. Many teams wanted him, but the price was too high. But I am sure SD could have traded him if they chose to do so.

Once that tender is signed, he gets value and could be used as such in trade if Parcells wants him.

Why would Jerry even want to trade Barber? It makes no friggen sense at all...

Barber is proven, period! A drafted player is not proven, no matter how good he is in college.

Stupidity at it's finest.
I agree!! Why would he even consider trading Barber?! Get rid of the ones who no longer have heart and passion for the game anymore , and leave the playmakers that we do have alone already!:banghead:

I would be shocked if JJ let one of the most popular Cowboys walk.

He traded Walker, nothing Jerry does would surprise me.

Sounds kind of dumb to trade #2 number 1 picks and a pro bowl rb for a rookie. We have other holes to fill. Dont do it Jerry.

Git 'er Dun, Jerrah.

Nothing wrong with taking a RB at # 1.

I don't think JJ even considers taking advice from a 'Skins fan about the draft. :)

Someone needs to send ole Jerry a reminder play tape of Barber Avoiding about seven tackles from the pats in the endzone!
He has more than proven he is a playmaker!

'BOYS TO MAKE A DEAL WITH THE FINS?

ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested during a special edition of Sunday NFL Countdown that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is eyeing the possibility of swinging a trade with the Dolphins for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Such a deal would allow the 'Boys to bag running back Darren McFadden, who played college football at Jones' alma mater of Arkansas.

Per Mort, any such deal would have to include the rights to Cowboys running back Marion Barber, who is slated to be a restricted free agent. To make it happen, the Cowboys would have to work out a sign-and-trade deal before Barber gets a chance to ink an offer sheet that would force the Cowboys to match the terms or let him go in exchange for compensation. Thus, the safest bet for the 'Boys would be to tender Barber at the highest possible level, which would force any team that signs him to give up a first-round pick and a third-round pick. Those extra picks then could be used to sweeten the pot for the top spot in the draft.

And it's clear that the Cowboys are going to have to find a way to enhance the two first-rounders that they can offer up for the No. 1 pick. Under the revised draft order, the Cowboys pick at No. 22 (from Cleveland) and at No. 28. Under the trade chart, the No. 22 overall pick is worth 780 points and the No. 28 selection is worth 660 points. The No. 1 selection has a value of 3,000 points; thus, the Cowboys would be a whopping 1,560 points short.

Though the trade chart arguably needs to be adjusted to reflect the fact that the enormous financial investment that is now required when using the top pick makes the prospects of a move up even more fraught with risk, the Fins could justify the 1,560-point gap by placing that value on Barber, who coupled with Ronnie Brown could give Miami a deadly one-two punch in the backfield.

Some readers think that the framework for a deal is already in place, and was part of the unspoken understanding that allowed the Dolphins to have their way with the Dallas front office and coaching staff. If that's true it wouldn't surprise us. Jones surely covets McFadden, and our guess is that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to get him.

At times...I really hate the off season. 90 days until the Draft = 90 more threads about acquiring McFadden.

Wow that is a serious attempt by Bill Parcells to drive up the price of that first pick.

Nice job, lap dog Mort....

No kidding. If Mort's reporting this about Dallas, then reality is that Jerry wants nothing to do with McFadden and is going to sign Marion Barber to a long term deal given Mort's track record.

Chris Mortinson was just on NFL Countdown and reported Dallas is interested in getting the 1st pick from miami so we could get Darren McFadden.. only problem is we would apparently have to give up MBIII... ANYBODY BUT THE BARBARIAN!!! NO JERRY NO!!!

If we lose Barber(plus whatever else) for McFadden then I will join the doom and gloomers.

If we give up our 1st rounders for McFadden then we are just going back to the old Jerry. Hey why not... he is bringing everyone back from those days.

Two first rounders for McFad is not all that different than his last mistake with two first rounders for Galloway.
