Before I board this (extremely discounted) flight, let me remind you that the final Hash Mock Draft will be released Friday at 8 a.m. ET. I'll be making a brief appearance at Grey Dog Coffee in Greenwich Village at 10 a.m. to explain my selections in case anyone's interested.
Now, here are a few things to ponder while I'm en route:
Cousin McShay still has Matt Ryan going to the Falcons in his seven-round mock draft, but I don't think it's going to happen. I think he falls to the Ravens at No. 8. And what if the Ravens get cute (smart) and trade down to No. 10, allowing the Saints to jump ahead of the Bengals and select USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis? Would Mel Kiper Jr. still make good on his promise to walk off the set if the Ravens actually select Ryan at No. 10? It's worth considering. One more thing: I think the Ravens like Ryan Clady more than Branden Albert.
This is not a good draft for wide receivers. I think Michigan State's Devin Thomas will be first off the board, but No. 11 is way too early. I realize the Bills desperately need a viable No. 2 receiver, but they'd be better off taking one of the elite cornerbacks at No. 11. Or take Derrick Harvey out of Florida. He'd be an immediate impact player. Thomas is still a project, and you don't take projects at No. 11 in the draft.
If Leodis McKelvin or Mike Jenkins slips to No. 22, the Cowboys will take him. They've made it clear that the trade for Pacman Jones will not affect their approach to this draft. If Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is available, a huge debate would ensue. I'm told that the scouts are split on this talented player. And the fact that he's playing with one kidney doesn't help. I think McKelvin and Jenkins will be long gone, so the Cowboys will decide between running backs Jonathan Stewart and Felix Jones. At No. 28, the Cowboys are in love with Brandon Flowers, the cornerback out of Virginia Tech.
