Matt Mosley of ESPN stated that it would not be surprising if the Eagles pursued Greg Ellis if released by Dallas.

Our View: The Eagles are looking to upgrade at outside linebacker, and Ellis would fit in well in their aggressive defense as he notched eight sacks in 2008. He is believed to be on the Cowboys' trading block.

Why? It would mean more passes for Witten and Bennett. They would eat Ellis alive.
He would play end for them. Total speculation on Mosely's part and this is if Ellis is released.

I think he'd play more with his hand down. They send the kitchen sink anyway.

Mosely doesn't run the Eagles organization.

I don't care where he would be, he'd provide more pressure than what they currently have.

How? I didn't know the Eagles played in a 3-4.

He'd be like their locker room rat, snitching on our schemes and what not. I'm hugely against this move.

That's not going to matter, and by the way, I'm all for Ellis getting the heck out of dodge, but for different reasons. Mine being, I don't think he's that good.

So being in Philly, New York, I could care less I just want him gone.

Full blurb from the Mosley Mailbag posted in another thread

Mav in Philly starts us off with a question about the Eagles' cap situation: What do you see the Eagles doing with their cap space? Do they take a wait-and-see approach to see how far they can get in the playoffs and then use the space to plug missing holes for 2010? Or do they spend that money now? Sheldon Brown seems to have hit his value ceiling to me. Could we package him and Reggie Brown along with a draft pick for anything at this point? I just know if the Eagles don't win (or at least make it to) the Super Bowl this year, the fan base will go berserk that they didn't do enough.

Mosley: I think the Eagles would consider adding another defensive end if the right guy becomes available. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Andy Reid tried to sign Greg Ellis if he's released by the Cowboys. He's scheduled to make $4.15 million this season, but there's no way he sees that money. It's far more likely that a team such as the Patriots, Bengals, Eagles, Panthers or Commanders sign him for somewhere in the $2 million range. Ellis could start at defensive end for several teams in the league, but his time as a starter at outside linebacker in Dallas has come to an end. I don't think there's a tremendous amount of interest in Sheldon Brown. The Eagles will wait and see if anyone has an injury in training camp. They'd be thrilled to get a third-round pick for Brown, but that's unlikely. There's no market for Reggie Brown. He may not make the team coming out of training camp. Hank Baskett, Jason Avant, Jeremy Maclin, DeSean Jackson and Kevin Curtis should all claim roster spots. Brown could be the odd man out.

Like the eagles, don't know our simple game plan anyway? Remember our last game we played????

Any NFL coach that has a clue about football knows how to defend our Cowboy offense. They sure don't need Ellis to help them with that!

I have no reason to believe, at this point, that our OL will be better than last year, and that's going to make for a long season.

Some of us have been saying we'll only go as far as the OL lets us. We'll see. Lack of depth could be a major problem for us.

But who wants to see the Eagles have a chance at a better pass rush?

Ellis will go whereever the money is.

I have to admit, I would get a smug sense of satisfaction if he went to Washington or Philadelphia after having years of his fans telling everyone what a great shining example of a Cowboy and human being he has been.

If i were Jerry, i'd let Ellis sit till late July, right before camp to see if anyone gets hurt training. We stand to gain nothing by letting him go now. Let him stew for the next two months.

If we don't get a trade partner in the next few weeks, absolutely.

Greg Ellis has never been shy about creating drama each and every offseason for the past half decade, so I don't see where we owe him the courtesy of giving him the best chance to find his next NFL home.

That said, I would be surprised if Jerry Jones actually decided to play hardball. He will probably cave, just as he has always done to this player.

I want to keep Ellis. If he get released and signs say in Philly, he will be a situational pass rushing DE and I don't want to see that.
