I don't know if Steve Smith is a fair comparison because there was a time when Williams was amongst the top four or five WR's in the league.

You are being kind. It was simply a stupid statement meant to enflame the masses. Looks like it worked.

It's pretty sad that the masses got fired up over it.

Roy williams is a long strider but will outrun most CBs to the End ZOne. Only a real idiot compares him to Key. Take a look at his career YPC and that tells a lot. remember he only had about one half of a season where the Lions were actually competitive= the first 8 games of 2006. And he was eating people up then. So I think he has a lot to offer and those that claim he don't are just stupid. Now whether he can do it or not is the question- the ABILITY is there to see except for the morons. What has NY's Steve Smith done?

i love the guy spinning Roy W's stats to make him a one yard receiver. Love it.
FACT - he has ONE 1000 yard season. Out of five seasons. FACT.

Spin it, coat it in sugar, dress it up in little pink ribbons. It is what it is. A guy that should have put up better numbers than he has. If he doesnt do it this season for is, he is what his numbers state. Average.

All you spin artists, give up. People can see through your bias crappola. I'm willing to call him what he is, but i'm willing to give him this year to prove he's better than that.

We will see. I remember a certain TE that was thrown out like trash, but when Dallas got a hold of him he became quite the player.

You can call him whatever you want to call him, but I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he does after an off season in the Cowboys program and playing on an actual NFL team with an actual QB.

I am more than willing to admit you may be right, but me personally I am not going out on a limb supported by a terrible team and sub par Quarterbacking when making my judgement.

Hey, if it helps, both NFL.com and CBSSportsline have Roy rated higher than all other NFC East WRs...in Fantasy rankings. Here is Sportsline's take:

16)...R Williams__DAL
23)...De Jackson__PHI
33)...S Moss__WAS
44)...S Smith__NYG
47)...Crayton__DAL
50)...Macklin__PHI
58)...Hicks__NYG
59)...Austin__DAL
61)...Randal El__WAS
70)...Hixon__NYG
76)...D Thomas__WAS

When you lay it out like that, we don't look so bad....at least in the NFC east.

name me 1 wr other than Larry Fitzgerald who consistently makes an impact including playoff games which rules out guys like Owens and Moss. I didn't see desean Jackson, Steve Smith and especially Santana Moss consistently make impacts last season.

tempted to make a thread with this and the other positions for NFC East
I'm sure Romo and Mcnabb are top rated QBs, Witten is the top TE, and the RBs are probably Westbrook on top with RBs with Barber, Portis, and Jacobs close behind....not sure though.

Roy Williams has played in a playoff game?

Roy has under-achieved so far in Detriot. You can't hold it against him that he's had crappy Olines/Qbs to work with in Detriot.

He has the potential to be a breakout WR, but so far, I have to agree, he hasn't been anything spectacular; I'd say he slides in just above mediocre (so far).

We all know it is time for Roy Williams to put up big numbers and justify what Jerry Jones gave up to acquire him and pay him like one of the NFL's best receivers.

But has he not shown the ability?

How many receivers ever make the Pro Bowl? How many do it after only three NFL seasons on a team that won only 3 games?

Michael Irvin needed 4 seasons before visiting Hawaii, Terrell Owens needed 5.

It isn't an easy thing to achieve, especially playing on a perennial loser like Detroit.

How many rookies lead their team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns?

Most take several seasons to acclimate to the NFL and a fair few never do.

Williams did that with the Lions.

Williams obviously has the talent.

Now he's on a team that should allow everyone to see it on a consistent basis.

Let's see what happens.

Sadly, I agree with him, Williams is an average WR with a TON of pressure on him.
How's the Cardinals offseason going?

Mosley is just following the Bayless pattern and getting the same results - a lot of attention.

Roy Williams

Rookie season: He missed two games due to injury. Two quarterbacks barely threw over 3,100 yards combined. Williams still accounted for over 25% of the total receiving yards and over 40% of receiving touchdowns.

2nd season: He missed three games due to injury. Three quarterbacks barely threw over 3,000 yards combined. Williams still accounted for 23% of the total receiving yards and over 50% of the receiving touchdowns.

3rd season: If folks want to argue over 2006, have at it.

4th season: He missed four games due to injury. Williams still accounted for 20% of the receiving yards and 26% of the receiving touchdowns. By comparison, check the numbers below which McDonald and Furrey accumulated in 16 games during the same season.

Some people say that his receiving ability has been his shortcoming instead of his propensity for injury. I say it's the opposite.

This season can't start fast enough for me.

There you go letting facts get in the way of a good agenda again. If our offense is healthy this year and at the end of the year Williams was poor to average then I am all on board with him being labeled that kind of player.

Mosley: Josh, call me Matt. When a player has been in the league five seasons and only has one 1,000-yard season, then I don't think you can call him a "1,000-yard receiver." I think Williams is an exciting player who can occassionally take over games. But I'd want my No. 1 receiver to consistently make an impact. His career in the NFL has been anything but consistent. And here's my list of Beast receivers who are better than Williams: DeSean Jackson of the Eagles, Santana Moss of the Commanders and I'd almost put Steve Smith of the Giants ahead of him -- based on last season's results. Smith makes clutch catches on a consistent basis. I've only seen Williams put up big numbers once -- and it was in Mike Martz's anti-run offense in Detroit.
