That was a finishing blow...sure he was suffering a beatdown up to that point..

Klecko was the aggressor and that punch caught him by surprise. Normally when someone is suffering a beat down they're retreating.

Randy White was a tough guy but he wasn't tough enough to handle Jimmy's training camp. Jimmy laughed recalling how his grueling training camp practices in 89 caused Randy White to retire.

He was old didnt want too deal with a new regime

Yeah, he wasn't tough, He was 36 and had been in the league for 14 years by then. He had played defensive tackle most of his career and was looking at playing for a team that would go 1-15. I am sure if he really wanted to play he could tough out any training camp Jimmy could throw at him. AND if he had decided to stick it out, he was probably better than any of the defensive tackles that Jimmy played with that year, even at age 36.

Randy was tough he just couldn't play up to his standards anymore because of lingering neck injuries! It had nothing to do with how tough training camp was going to be!

No one is saying he wasn't tough I was relaying what Jimmy said during NFLN's airing of Jimmy Johnson A Football Life. Jimmy came in cracking a whip in 89 and after 14 years in the league White didn't feel his body would hold up under Jimmy's grueling practices. Jimmy said White came in and told him he thought he was a good coach and would do a great job in Dallas but his practices were too much for his aging body. As Jimmy recalled it he laughed and said he retired the great Randy White. Had White decided to stick it out there were no guarantees Jimmy would have kept him.

Jimmy was cleaning house and although he kept a few of the older players like Too Tall Jones there were no assurances he would have kept Randy White which may have played into his decision to retire. In 88 during an injury plagued season White only had 1.5 sacks and did virtually nothing starting only one game that season so he was clearly in decline. If he felt he could still play at least to the standard Jimmy expected he wouldn't have retired. Jimmy didn't care about a players reputation or if they were a future HOF player they had to prove to him they still had it.

I guess I'm not understanding this....is this just feared as in they were afraid to play them because they were so good and/or fierce? Or are we talking about feared because people were just afraid of how mean they could actually be.

If it's the second, which is what I'm going with, I'd say Erik Williams and definitely Randy White.

Watch America's game and listen to Hollywood Henderson and Charlie Waters talk about Randy White. They both talk about how Randy White scared them. He was as intimidating and mean as a person could be on the football field.
