This has probably been discussed but since we signed Hamlin should we move him to strong safety?

I think he is going to be the 3rd safety either way and I really like what ive seen from Abram Elam in the short amount of time ive got to watch him.

Also it doesn't look like we will be drafting a safety early in this draft and I think the competition between Watkins and Hamlin is going to be very competitive.

Ive been one of those guys that thinks if its not Laron Landry or Reggie Nelson then just go with Watkins.

Would you guys keep Keith Davis where he is or move him?

I really hope that they cut Davis. He is over rated as a special team player and brings nothing as a safety.

I dont agree with that. Ive seen him blow people up on special teams. If we let him go someone will pick him up quick and get one of the leagues best special team guys in my opinion.

Hes also a guy I think if he has to can fill in at safety but has never taken that next step that we were all hoping for.

All of our safeties are really good special teams guys so we are pretty fortunate for that.

Its possible Davis hangs on as a fifth safety just because of his STs ability. They are high on Elam, its been reported he ran in the 4.3s before he was signed.

Is it worth keeping a roster spot for a special teams player? If yes, then keep Davis if not cut him. I don't think he can play either S position FWIW.

I think his position doesn't matter...hes not gonna see the field because Hamlin I think will be the backup at both spots.

No way!!! should we ever cut Elam. The guy has shown nothing but good things since he's been here and dang he looks and plays darn fast. The boy looks like he can bring the wood too. This is only his second year. If anything trade Davis because of the numbers. We probably won't be able to keep him after this year anyways. Elam is the only guy in the safety bullpin that we know can run with receivers. Just maybe he can do what the others can't very well. COVER!!! :)

At some point, you gotta cut guys who have no potential to start. IMO, there is no upside to Davis. He's a decent STs player but there are guys out there who are good STs players who have upside to develope into something more. He's had several years and several opportunities to prove he can start. He is clearly, IMO, not anybody I would trust to come in and play if he had to. JMO.

I'd move him to strong safety where the Killa can do what he does best.... hit like a cannonball.

Some of you guys are forgetting a great special teams player that we had here for years and was nothing more than a bit player on defense..... anyone remember Bill Bates? I'm pretty sure nothing more needs to be said about ST players that will never start. :star:

He didn't start but played in nickle and dime packages. Killer shouldn't be on the field on defense. Big difference between the two players.

Usually only when injuries dictated that he be on the field. He was an extremely intelligent player and nobody has ever played with more heart but man he was slow. He was very rarely the first choice to be on the defensive field. :D

Yeah, and overpaid since the Cowboys had to meet the New Orleans tender last year.

Bill Bates played on third down as the MLB and he was not just a good ST player. He was probably the best STs player in the league at the time. Perhaps it is not us who are confused and still, Bates was touch and go evey year. He had to make the team every year.
