I know one thing, they still have their bias toward Barry Sanders and against Emmitt.

I have always said in my view Barry Sanders was the best pure runner I have seen but Emmitt was the best all around RB (rushing,Rec. and blocking) I would take Emmitt any day over Barry.

You can't tell that to Lions fans. They are stuck in their ways no matter what. BTW, I have done some extensive research on both Emmitt and Barry and wrote about it. I want to post in on here, but it's really long and most people don't like to do a lot of reading. Let me know if you want to check it out.

I know I have had that debate with Lions fans in the past. I did enjoy watching Sanders as I said I think the guy was the best pure runner in the game, the guy was amazing to watch but when you look at the overall picture of RB responsibility and how Emmitt executed all phases I think he was better.

Whenever someone mentions Dallas and Detroit in the same sentence, it always comes back to Emmitt vs. Barry. I agree with you, Dooms, Emmitt Smith was the most complete RB to ever play the game. He was excellent in every phase and he made his team better. As good as they were, the Cowboys couldn't win without him. That has to be factored into "best."

This almost reminds me of the claims that the Saints were the new "America's Team" after Hurricane Katrina. One columnist at NFL.com predicted that the whole country would be watching the Saints' next game, which had been moved to Monday night and was at the same time as our regularly scheduled Monday night game. He predicted that our game would be "the lowest rated Monday Night Football Game ever."

And of course, our game easily outdrew the Saints' game that night.

Yeah, I remember that too.

Ah, the yearly decision to bestow our nickname on someone else. Forgive me while I laugh at yet another lame attempt to steal this nickname.

I can't even tell you how many times I have heard some idiot say that the nickname America's Team is offensive, and in the next breath discuss why their team should have it.

If it's offensive why do you want it?

Notice how nobody finds cannibalism offensive? Nobody wants to steal Purple People Eaters.

Notice how nobody finds monsters offensive? Nobody wants to steal Monsters of the Midway.

Morons.

The Lions may not be America's Team, but neither are they the same team that went 0-16 last season.

The 2009 version is almost completely different from the 2008 version. Not saying they are SB bound, but I can understand the hope, especially for their revamped defense.

The fact that Detroit isn't doing well economically andtheir team might improve this year does not make them America's team.

Until the Lions become the most valuable franchise they got nothing on us.
Besides, I would dare to say that for every Lions fan there's between 2-7 Cowboys fans.

It is jealousy, pure and simple.

What does them having hope have to do with anything? They had hope before last season. Look how that worked out for them. This writer is an idiot. I hate "lovable loser" crap.

No kidding I'm not sure the city of Detriot were even willing to claim them. :lmao:
Somehow I'm not in a laughing mood since neither one of us made the playoffs, but that will change in 09/10. The lions will go no where, and we are guaranteed a Super Bowl Victory in 2010. I can't wait.

You can't equate an 0-16 season with ours. You just can't. 0-16 is one for the record books. If you think you would feel the same after an 0-16 season as you did after an underachieving 9-7 season, then take if from me, you wouldn't. AINT NOTHING WORSE THAN LOSING EVERY GAME. Trust me, you would feel a lot worse if that happened.

I feel like 9-7 we're a lot closer to the Super Bowl, we're 9 games closer than Detroit. All we have to do now is put the nail in the coffin, I believe Romo will put this team on his back, he will tell Flozell not to false start and allow the rushers in too quickly. He will force Williams to beat 1 on 1 coverage, oops, he's the number 1 now so he should be able to beat double coverage easily, something the washed up TO couldn't do.

I can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think there is no difference between a 9-7 season and an 0-16 season, you dont know football.

A winning season is still a very good accomplishment, even if the team didnt make the playoffs. The Pats went 11-5 and didnt make the playoffs, is their season the same as the Lion's???

So sad we couldn't go 11-5 without our starting QB, not just our starting QB but the best QB in the league. That team, how did they manage to win 11 games without their super hero QB, while we stumbled into 9 wins? All I know is, we are going all the way to the Super Bowl this year, can you feel it?

Jeez, wth did I say that you took so personal? I was just pointing out that many of the 0-16 players have been jettisoned and replaced, especially on defense. Did not think I would antagonize anyone w/harmless observations.

The city if Detroit is called "Detoilet" for a reason as it has been run by corrupt politicians for decades now. The football team is merely a reflection on the region... they suck at everything.
