Move up to Draft Quentin Jammer Anyone?

"Caldwell, let go by the Chargers after last season, was single covered by cornerback Quentin Jammer. With one move at the line of scrimmage, Caldwell froze Jammer and bolted past him. They both sprinted up the San Diego sideline.
Forty-nine yards later, Caldwell held the ball and New England held the game. “I had a chance to come home and show what I can do,” Caldwell said. “This means a lot. It’s a lot of gratification.”

Anyone remember the big controversy about should we move up to the 4 spot to target Quentin Jammer? The draft is clearly a hazardous place for anyone.... to be certain of anything based on college-level performance.

Everyone should try to keep that in mind as we head into the "pre-draft-can-miss-because-I-saw-this-guy shred NCAA defenses" season.

This is not new news.

Jammer has been a disapointment for awhile now.

When they drafted him the league basically took away all the rules that helped corners like Jammer.

Hes not allowed to be physical.

No. It proves that Jammer is soft. He is what I thought he is. You want to crown him. Go ahead. Crown him.

Jammer is a bust for where he was picked. Just like Roy is with us.

Exactly! He was a great physical corner at UT, but he entered the NFL at the wrong time. The NFL took away his greatest/best trait by eliminating the ability of CBs to be physical with receivers. This stunted his development, and took away his playmaking ability. So, I wouldn't call him a true bust.

i also get annoyed by people who see 1 play and define a career out of it.

Jammer has been toasted by MANY over the last 4 years. He was actually playing better late last year and this year but in the big games he got buttered and spread.

If this is what you want from a top 10 pick with a huge contract then more power to you.

Roy is nothing but a glorified smaller linebacker. Can't cover. Can't rush the passer. (How many times do you see him actually making it past his blocker when he gets to rush?) He is a liability out there and if you don't believe me go back and watch his coverage. There is a reason teams are finding ways to isolate him in coverage.

by instituting the 5-yard rule for contact, it exposed Jammer's quickness, which isn't very good

Jammer would of been crap even if they didn't wussify the rules (or Manningfy, same thing).

The problem with that play is that Caldwell could have been called for offensive PI and may have if it was another team.

He slowed about ten yards before the catch then used his arm to push off when accelerating again.

No kidding. Can you imagine if he played for us? We're talking suckiness of Dwayne Goodrich proportions.

True. But in today's NFL, WR's - as well as QBs - wear skirts. They aren't even football players anymore. Can't touch them when covering them, and can't hit 'em after they catch it. Might as well be playing flag football.
