How much did we likely save in salary cap space by moving from #18 to 31?

They would have saved more by drafting either Free or Spencer replacement.

That'd be awful said if it was any part of the equation.

Taking crappy value in trades because you need cap space?

Except now they have some room to sign a Clabo or Winston. That may be a major part of their plans.

can you really believe a player at 18 would make that much of an impact on next year, that we really really had to have that player? I personally dont. We picked up another pick, we got money value out of our pick and a versatile pick. Happy is my word for the pick.

It's not all that much and then you pick up another guy. Your rookie sal cap pool is based upon the number of picks and the slots. In the grand scheme of things, this didn't save much if any money. It's not the reason we moved down.

so saving the $1.6 million means that Free stays? Cap savings shouldn't be a factor if your plans call for Free to be cut.

I gotta believe it played a factor.

There is no way it saved $1.6 million in cap dollars when the entire draft class will take less than $3 million in cap dollars. The difference in salary might be $1.6 million but thats a whole different ballgame from cap dollars.

That could be over the 4-5 years of the contract and could be possible between #18 and #31....but as far as effect on this year's cap it might be $3-400k
