Rookie of the Week

NFL.com voters select Manny Lawson as Week 2 Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK (Sept. 21, 2006) -- Voters on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service have made their choice. Linebacker MANNY LAWSON of the San Francisco 49ers is the DIET PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for games played on September 17-18, the NFL announced today.

Lawson recorded three tackles, two sacks and two quarterback pressures in the 49ers’ 20-13 win over the St. Louis Rams. He was a key factor in San Francisco’s defense holding the Rams to 185 passing yards on the day. Lawson recorded sacks on the Rams’ opening drives of both the first and third quarters.

Ware's not a rookie. That's a rookie award.

It's the same meaningless award that Green Bay safety Marques Anderson won three times in 2002, which prompted many Cowboys fans to claim Anderson was better than our rookie safety -- Roy something.

That's great. Lawson WILL be a better player than Carpenter this year ... if that's what we're trying to prove.

Why? Because San Francisco needs him to be. Because of the position he plays. Etc.

Doesn't mean anything. If we needed a first-round pick to back up our pass-rushing linebacker Ware, Lawson would have been a great choice.

I wanted Lawson as bad as anyone and was disappointed when we took Carp instead. But I don't know that Lawson would be doing nearly as well here as he is in SF. We have a lot more talent for him to compete with than they do and he might be sitting at second or third string here just as Carpenter is.

I'm happy for him...good job Manny...but he is a 49er so...next story.

And if Lawson was a Dallas Cowboy...

He'd be on the bench too, and not winning Rookie of the Week awards.

Yeah, I wanted Manny as well. That does not mean that I am giving up on Carpenter.
