i think torrin can due a good job. while his early camp and first exibition game were scary, he played alot better from there and i thought he closed the gap on rob a little bit, eventhought rob was improving himself, with each game. also, torrin might have helped himself while mentoring rob during each game by improving his focus and understanding of their responsibilities on each play. he seems to be team oriented and pretty atheletic which will help on the left side.

as far as helping rob or torrin, i know no player recieves help on every play. in fact, i'd say rob was on his own for nearly 50 % of the plays. i think game plan will reflect this and help will be available where ever needed.

now i'm a new fan and a former giant fan at that, but after watching ellis and ware completely manhandle the giant tackles, i'd say torrin and rob are capable of doing a much better job.

go boys!!

Pittdawg, your confidence in Tucker inspires me. But I'm still worried. Flo to Tucker is a big drop off, and Flo wasn't all that this year either.

Then again, Tucker's only a 3rd year pro. I hope he's continuing to develop and learn as well. This could be his chance to breakout and show what he can do.

I had high hopes for him coming out of college. He was the highest rated OG in the draft, yet went undrafted. That baffles me. I was very happy we got him, but he's yet to live up.

Let's hope he uses his chance to his advantage.

Thanks pittdawg. I agree, i think the team has that fighter/boxer mentality that parcells tries to instill in his players. They will cont to play as a team and fight through this.

Don't know if you followed the Cowboys last year Pittdawg, but the knock on Torrin Tucker has never really been his abilities, but more his focus. At times, he looked like the future right tackle for the Cowboys, and at times he looked like the #1 reason why Dallas should draft an offensive tackle early. I hope you're right and he's back on track. I think he has a great attitude, especially those from the heart comments he made to the press about how he would "die for his teammates" after one of his poorer games. I don't know if it's just mental, maybe he's the kind of guy who gets nervous with a coach like Parcells, not sure. I hope this is his breakout year. We could really use the big guy.

Thanks for the insight Pittdawg. I didn't know that Torrin mentored Rob. That at least shows character on his part. I sort of agree with Eddie's sentiments above. However, I was not unhappy with Tucker's play on Sunday.

I was very unhappy with Flozell's play the last couple of games though. So maybe Tucker will be okay. His penalty machine and matador performances in the past just scare the heck out of me. But Flo has been doing that too.

I agree , He seems to have picked up his game since training camp. But my question Pittdawg is, who has the better feet and atheticism Torrin or Rob? If it is Rob then maybe he should move to the left and Torrin to the right and have Flo go to the right next year which I believe is his natural position anyway.

Thanks for the input pittdawg. Our tackle situation has been a problem for a while. We just start feeling comfortable with Rob at RT, then this.

Question for you: Flozell always had problems with the speed guys. Do you see Torrin as being a little more athletic and possible being able to deal with them better than Flo, but just having a more difficult time with the mental side of things?

Do you have an opinion, (and/or can you say it), as to what has been the main cause of Tucker's problems in the past?

But the part that Pittdawg does bring up is the idea that maybe he has put more focus into those areas since he has been helping Rob.

We will see...like you said he has the physical abilities, the heart and desire...but just got to get that head on straight.

I wonder if bill will say that Tucker is still not the guy for LT....we will see.

Parcells always said he liked Tucker's tenacity and toughness. And as TruBlue said, he lacked focus and concentration. Also a Parcells sign of a player to keep, see what he does in his 3rd year. So this can be his chance. If he doesn't do a solid job, he will probably be gone next year. Time to step up Torrin and show us you can play on a consistent level.

Thanks for the boost of confidence! however I am still uneasy about Tucker there, until he can completely focus and not make mistakes/penalties. I guess we will see how Tucker progresses, if he can play up to his size/potential he is gonna be a good one, if he will ever do that though, I dont know.

that might work, but torrin has been practicing at both positions since early training camp while rob has been at rt only. i'm sure rob would be ok after some practice, but now you'd have two new tackles working to build chemistry with their line partners.

I watched the 2nd half again last night and Tucker looked ok to me, just like Parcells said "some good some bad." Being just a fan and not an expert but it appeared when Tucker knew who to block he was very sound: he had good leverage, was squared up, moved his feet and blocked his man fairly well both in passing and running plays. He also had the tight end lined up next to him quite a bit and Barber chipped his guy at times coming out of the backfield. However there were a few occasions, specifically the 6 yard loss by Barber in OT when the lb run blitzed and the the next to last play before our last fg in regulation when Drew had to rush a throw, where Torrin wasn't sure who to block and either completely whiffed or was lunging at a defender.
That's going to be the key: If he knows his assignments cold, he has plenty of ability to get the job done.

I dont think we move Rob to LT. he's been playing to well at RT to all of a sudden move him to a new spot and force him to relearn stuff midseason. Hopefully Tucker's practice and mentoring/focus have paid off for him, and he can finally put that massive body to work.

Well in all fairness, I'm sure he wasn't prepared to play LT in a real game. He was probably overwhelmed being thrown into a new position against a division rival. Given that, I'd say he did pretty good. The real test will be Seattle. It would be nice to see Tucker finally "get it".

pitt, Can Rob play LT? I do believe that Garcia has played RT before. If so, it would probably be easier to replace the RG with someone on the team and move Rob. That would allow for us to protect him with a TE if needed. Chemistry is always an issue but at this point, our OL chemistry is going to be disrupted either way.

can't speak as to torrin's past problems, but as for flo, i think he relies on his ability to much at the cost of technique. i'm no coach, but just watching rob on the strahan sack, he took one half misstep to his left and strahan blew by him. same with flo, on his sack he misstepped with his left foot and the de blew right by. not alot of room for error in this league.

In all fairness to Tucker, remember he didn't have Marco Rivera on his left, last year.

And now, he will have Larry Allen on his right.

I look forward to seeing what he can do.

No. Marco wasn't here last year.
