In all fairness to Tucker, remember he didn't have Marco Rivera on his left, last year.

And now, he will have Larry Allen on his right.

I look forward to seeing what he can do.
hopefully larry can step it upand help get tucker thru the season.

pitt, Can Rob play LT? I do believe that Garcia has played RT before. If so, it would probably be easier to replace the RG with someone on the team and move Rob. That would allow for us to protect him with a TE if needed. Chemistry is always an issue but at this point, our OL chemistry is going to be disrupted either way.

he was a four year starter at Pitt at left tackle. 49 starts out of 50 games, only missing one due to injury.

Well in all fairness, I'm sure he wasn't prepared to play LT in a real game. He was probably overwhelmed being thrown into a new position against a division rival. Given that, I'd say he did pretty good. The real test will be Seattle. It would be nice to see Tucker finally "get it".

Who will be rushing from the left side for Seattle. Does anyone know? Is it a premiere guy we should be unusually worried about?

Grant Wistrom, the guy who single-handedly made Jerry Jones look like a genius after comparing Greg Ellis contract numbers vs. Grant Wistrom contract numbers. :wink2:

that might work, but torrin has been practicing at both positions since early training camp while rob has been at rt only. i'm sure rob would be ok after some practice, but now you'd have two new tackles working to build chemistry with their line partners.

Rob has done a terrific job of learning how to play RT, asking a rookie to move over to the left side almost halfway into the season-- even if that was his natural position in college-- is asking too much...

Maybe you might want to think about looking at him at LT in camp next year, but for now, leave the guy alone... he's doing just fine at RT, if it ain't broke don't fix it...

i think torrin can due a good job. while his early camp and first exibition game were scary, he played alot better from there and i thought he closed the gap on rob a little bit, eventhought rob was improving himself, with each game. also, torrin might have helped himself while mentoring rob during each game by improving his focus and understanding of their responsibilities on each play. he seems to be team oriented and pretty atheletic which will help on the left side.

as far as helping rob or torrin, i know no player recieves help on every play. in fact, i'd say rob was on his own for nearly 50 % of the plays. i think game plan will reflect this and help will be available where ever needed.

now i'm a new fan and a former giant fan at that, but after watching ellis and ware completely manhandle the giant tackles, i'd say torrin and rob are capable of doing a much better job.

go boys!!

Thanks for your take. I hope you are right and I respect your opinion. I still can't help feeling a strong sense of gloom over the possibility of Tucker at LT. If he's anything better than a full blown disaster I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Wistrom doesnt really scare me. He isnt really a speed rusher, more like a guy with a good motor. Tucker will have to stay focused to shut him down, but physically is very possible. LA will help tucker on the pass rush, im not scared about the seahawks pass rush, moreso their offense.

I agree with not moving him at all this year, but will go a step further...he is nailing down the RT we have not had for a few years...keep him there because he's doing great.

Draft a new LT this year, and also hope Flo comes back healthy...then we have a nice problem...

Kind of tough to be objective on your own son, I realize. Sorry, that was a bad question to ask you. Still in all, thank you for the info. Of all scenarios, I would be in favor of moving Rob to LT and giving him help. Moving Rivera over to RT and filling the RG spot with Peterman or whomever was best suited. Would probably be a curve for Rob at first but if he can do well there, that's a lot more money in his pocket on the new contract and it's also that much more reason for the team to make sure they keep you. If you can play both Tackle spots, that's not a bad thing.

In theory I agree, but Wistrom has one of those non-stop motors. Meaning Tucker will need to keep his focus until the wistle blows every single down...that scares me...

that's right, but if he doesn't send a limo to pick tucker up at the hotel there may be some hope.

ya i agree. we gotta draft an LT this year regardless. Hopefully a top notch one. I dont think flozell will ever be the same. if he does come back to start, we at least have depth if he goes down again and we can give the young LT time to learn behind one of the best.

yep i agree. i am hoping that tucker is more focused this year, he is gonna be on an extremely short leash with me after what ive seen from him in the past. i am scared of exactly what u said, he might give up on a play allowing wistrom to sack bledsoe. we cant allow bledsoe to get hurt, or our season is really going to be in danger.

Exactly what was less than objective in Pittdawg's response?? He was asked if Rob had ever played LT, and told you that indeed he had, in 49 college games...

Seems like a pretty factual response to me... I sure didn't read any defensiveness and/or irritation in his response...

Once Tucker gets some more practice at LT, he will do okay. It will still be a falloff from Adams I think because Tucker does not have the natural ability of Adams. I think LT is a very important position and he will need a little extra help. That could be a problem with a rookie RT also, but no one has help on every single play. Petitti is improving and will need less help as time goes on. Tucker is also a young guy. I think we are going to have to go with two young tackles this season because there are certainly no street FA's who are better.

I never said it was not objective. I said it was inappropriate of me to ask this question of him.

See the difference?
