Who are your early pet cats for Dallas?

I've heard T. WIlliams and D. Harmon are very good run defenders.

If Rush and Lance leave in FA and it’s the third round & somehow Dart and Ewers are still on the board…

You’d rather they take Dart?

Don't think a team needing at minimum 2 DL players with at least 1 being a starter, a starting RB, a 2nd WR, linebacker, OL help (Martin, Steele) can afford taking a back up QB round 3.

It's close for me, but when it's down the field throwing ability I tend to lean towards Dart over Ewers. It really depends on the type of QB your looking for in that instance. They are pretty close to me. If Dallas is looking for a late round QB look at Utah's Cam Rising for a late 6th round pickup. Great player and Utah really falters without him under center. He is older but he's a very experienced game manager who could step in and win games.

It really depends on what you consider a pet cat. For me a pet cat is someone that nobody else is talking about that can be a contributor right away.

If you wanted me to pick the Cowboys 1st rounder right now I would pick by likeliness.
1. DE Nic Scourton, Texas A&M
2. DT Walter Nolen, Ole Miss
3. WR Emeka Egbuka, OSU
4. WR Tre Harris, Ole Miss
5. Heisman Trophy Winner RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State, if he somehow falls to them in the 20's.

My late round pet cats
1. RB Ja'Quinden Jackson, Arkansas
2. DE J.J. Weaver, Kentucky
3. DT Sheldon Newton Boise State
4. Slot Johnathan Baldwin UNLV
5. S LaMiles Brooks Georgia Tech
Bonus DT J.R. Singleton Iowa State

Personally, I think you're mistaking "pet cat" and "sleeper" but there are no hard-definitive rules for draft discussion.

Urban Dictionary defines it the way you are describing....
A term used by NFL draft analysts to describe a player that will be overlooked by many but will highly exceed their draft position.
My pet cat this year is (insert name) I think with the last pick in round 6 he's going to be the next Tom Brady!

Amongst scouts or guys in personnel, a "pet cat" generally means someone you really like, above and beyond other prospects, and almost get your feelings hurt if anyone has anything critical to say about that prospect. It derived from player personnel executives telling scouts and coaches to stay level-headed in their evaluations.

Another popular draft term is a player you "would stand on the table for" which I think evolved from a player you "would pound the table for."

This RB class should be way better than 2024. Three RBs that I like that are not listed are Tahj Brooks (Texas Tech), RJ Harvey (UCF), and Woody Marks (USC/MS State)
Harvey and Marks have really impressed me. I may biased as a Trojan homer with Woody.

Everyone will want Jeanty, and they should, he's really good, but I want a late Day 2/early Day 3 guy like Harvey, Marks, Jaydn Ott from Cal, or the kid from Rutgers ( Kyle Monangai).

With the needs we have along the defensive line alone, I would probably stay away from RB in round 1, but it all depends on how they grade out I suppose.

No Tahj Brooks at RB? All he does is rushes for over 100 every game for two straight seasons

That just shows the depth of this running back class. Backs 11-15 are all probably 4/5 round talents and Brooks would be in that group for me. If the Cowboys don't draft Jeanty early, they could wait until round 5 if they wanted to and still get an impressive RB.

The more games that go by, the more I wonder what anyone ever saw in Carson Beck.

Wouldn't take him in the 3rd round.....

his number ten RB still goes in the fourth rd. This is a deeper RB draft than I can remember. There might still be very good backs in the fifth rd this coming draft

Kaleb Johnson, Iowa - he’s the ENTIRE OFFENSE for Iowa, every team knows it, and they STILL CAN’T STOP HIM!!!!! And, he doesn’t have a ton of carries (438 as of today in 3 years).

I attended Iowa and still follow the team and he is really a true stud. And he is not tall but very solid so that is good for a RB.
