I thought it was already reported that Capers declined any overtures from Parcells (or was that the Nyquil talking?). If true, your fallback position is full of holes. With all due respect (hehe).
There may be something to the staff search theory given the radio silence from Fort Parcells these days, but what it means in terms of warm bodies is anybody's guess. Only the brave or desperate are likely to take a true 1-year assistant deal, if it's indeed but 1 year before the Tuna sets sail.
As to the talking to one person through another part: possible, but about as iffy a prediction as the hot college coach of the minute.
If people are convinced that we will move to a state of a coach only staying here 3-4 years at the most, we are indeed risking mediocrity: no long-term continuity at the HC spot. It could be argued that assistants can be promoted, but that assumes that a sufficient number of the assistants themselves are worthy, and if they are, they can't all become HCs here, so you stand a good chance of losing talented staff. That too is a fairly risky plan IMO.
I'd sooner throw dice. In Vegas.
