He's all excited. He's asking me what I think, given the Cowboy years we endured with BP. Like I sit in the GM office with Jerry and Steve and know anything..................
But this I DO know and told him so. Is Parcells part of the problem, or part of the solution in Miami? We'll, you don't need an NFL tea-leaf to figure out that answer in Miami. ANYTHING would help. And Parcells will probably bring more good than bad.
But....................
If given a choice between Parcells for "Head of Football Operations" (as if there's any other "operation" with the Miami Dolphins Professional Football Club) or Marty Shottenheimer, I'd take Marty.
First of all, every time Shottenheimer "left" anywhere, it was because he got the boot out of there. Parcells, on the other hand, hasn't "left" a job without some dramatic exit, soley at the whim of Parcells. Secondly, Marty, no matter where he goes, "Bleeds" that teams colors. He gets totally committed and sells his soul for that franchise. Browns, Chiefs, Chargers.....doesn't matter, Marty was a "Chief for life" or a "Charger for life" until they told him to hit the road.
Parcells doesn't bring that to Miami. You always get the feeling with BP that he has one foot into your program, and the other foot "feeling" out other gigs. And his track record MORE than proves that. You get the impression that he's "in it for Bill" first and foremost. Whereas with Shottenheimer, you get the CLEAR indication that he is sold-out on whatever gig he's gotten.
So I told the guy "Yeah, better than a stick in the eye..........I guess. But the Dolphins, getting Shottenheimer for "Head of football operations" would have brought you a ton more football capital.
Any thoughts...............????
