My fathers brother...

As many of you well know, I am half Navajo Indian. This is an article about my fathers brother. He lives currently in Gallup, NM. This man is my fathers brother. He is 94 years old....

He would tell us stories about when he went to Government schools, they would try and beat the kids, literally, from speaking Navajo. They wanted him to speak English only. After school, he, my father and the other ancestors would always go home and speak in Navajo..they could not beat it out of them.

Unfortunately, I never learned Navajo...it was just so damn hard! But, they did nickname me "moogie", which meant "monkey" because I was always climbing trees. lol

nice but a silly question perhaps, why refer to him as my father's brother and not "my uncle"?
