I posted this in another forum, but wanted to post it here to get thoughts.

Here is miy 5 from the week before the Philly game. Most of it still holds true.

1. Fire Wade Phillips. Okay, probably not going to happen unless we are waiting on something from the SuperBowl. But bringing in Dan Reeves in some capacity will ensure us that if we are playing like Patsies at week five next year, Wade will be gone and Reeves the interim.

2. Get rid of Owens, Pacman, and Tank. Two out of three so far. Owens could be next, especially if Reeves is brought in. I think Miles Austin can be a star this year. We are okay at CB and what did Tank actually do?

3. Move Ratliff to DE and either draft with our first pick, trade up to get, or sign the best available "Real" 350 Lb runstopping NT available. Ratliff made the Probowl on his third down play. He can still rush from the NT spot on thrid down. The problem is he often got ate up on running plays. In the 3-4, that cannot happen. Let him play DE on rushing downs, and sometimes move back inside on passing downs to rush.

4. Get a real Backup QB. Probably still happen. Garcia, as much as I used to hate him as a 49er, would be the perfect backup QB for Romo. If you want to look younger, Losman, Simms, or a trade for Beck could suffice. Don't draft a backup. It will take him two to three years to be able to play at the level we need our backup to play in 2009.

5. Address Safety. Not Henry. We need a real FS. Hamlin can handle SS. We need to either sign, trade for, or draft a real FS who is a ball hawk who played the postion in college, at a high level. We are constantly missing on this position. What a difference a real FS can make to a defense.

Unrealistic.

Garcia is a starting QB in this league.

Ratliff may get some snaps at DE but there is no reason to mess with Spears who is playing well and developing into a leader.

Hamlin cannot play SS.

If Wade is fired it is not going to be his buddy Reeves taking over.

I'd add o-line, ilb, and OC to the list.

Who is going to sign Garcia to start?

Ratliff takes Canty's place. Canty will be gone.

Hamlin is a SS.

Do you think that Reeves would tell Jerry that he could not accept the interim HC position because he is Wade's friend. Come on. That's the reason for the Reeves thing in the first place.

There are many teams in this league that would sign Garcia, starting with a return to SF, a return to TB, Chi, KC, Det, and Minn.

Ratliff isn't going to switch to Canty's position.

As pointed out by others, Hamlin has played FS his entire career for a reason. He's a crap tackler.

If Wade is fired, Garrett takes over. Period. Reeves is here b/c Jerry is trying to copycat Miami.

I disagree with all of that.

Garcia is 38 years old now. Do you really think one of the teams you listed is going to go after him to be their starting QB?

Hamlin cannot compete at FS in this league anymore. If he can't play SS, then he has to go. He is not a Ballhawk by any means.

Ratliff will take over for Canty because Canty will be gone. Most people a gree, we need a runstuffing NT.

Reeves is Jerry's insurance policy. He will not allow this team to start 3-3 next season. If he sees a similar product to what he had this year early, Wade is gone, and Reeves can step right in.

You forgot to mention Ellis on #2. I'm convinced he's as much to blame for chemistry issues as Owens.

What has Austin done in his entire career that makes you think he can replace TO? There are only 2 or 3 receivers in the entire league who could replace Owens.

So your solution is to pretty much move guys to positions they haven't played, thereby creating gaps in other positions.

Yes. That's how teams do it. Losing teams.

Sure you're OK guy. I'm even more sure how happy I am you're not calling the shots.

Here's a more realistic plan:

1) Hiring Reeves is a good start. Like the consol deal and believe he'll help Jones properly evaluate Coaches, strategies, work schedule and talent.
Still have a good bit of confidence in Wade and Garrett from the X's and O's viewpoint. Especially Wade.
The concern is with the discipline and work ethic and that leads to point 2.

2) Hire a few of the right coaches/coordinators. We need a few task master SOB type drill sargents to keep everyone in line. This could be our new DC and another offensive assitant. Couple guys to play bad cop opposite Wade and Garrett's good cop roll.

3) Use as many of our 11 picks as we dare. Go BPA accross the board and lookm to seriously churn that bottom 3rd of the roster. A nice injection of youth and enthusiasim will go a long way toward improving the team attitude.

4) As best we can, improve the talent and depth at S and OL.

5) Keep Owens and Pacman. Talent is talent. Removing it won't improve the teams attitude. Getting new and holdover coaches to do their job will!
